Cultural sensitivities?....an Indian investigator told US officials India is “not a third world country” and “can do anything you all can do”.
Folks, these fuel shutoff switches are of a lever-lock design - you can't just bump them to turn them to the off position. It has to be deliberate. Turning them off requires a motion to pull against a spring, then down over the mechanical lock that keeps them in the raised (on) position.
Flags: the timing of the two shutoffs, one right after the other; the long pause before any action was taken; the captain's odd response.
This reminds me of Egypt's attempted cover-up of the suicidal (relief) copilot's deliberate crashing of EgyptAir 990, on Oct. 31st, 1999. Alone in the cockpit, he disconnected the autopilot and plunged the 767 into the ocean yelling “Tawakkalt ala Allah” - often translated as “I rely on God.” When the captain got back into the cockpit and struggled to regain control, the copilot finally shut off the fuel switches, just as happened with this Air India crash. As I remember the reports, even though the captain eventually pulled out of the (briefly supersonic) dive to a climb, an engine pod fell off and they plunged into the ocean.
In the case of Egypt Air, the mistake the Egyptians made was to invite US investigators to participate, just as in this Air India crash investigation. The NTSB and Boeing (plus GE, FAA as advisers) are participants in the Air India international investigation, led by the Indian aviation investigators, AAIB.
The truth must come out.
This may have been an airline thing not a Boeing thing.
This is nothing compared to our feds covering for Boeing 🙄.
Why do suicidal folks want to take others with them?
And Boeing outsources their own manufacturing to $9 /hour labor from India so it’s like…just cut it with the hypocrisy…
I do my fair share of Boeing bashing but this had nothing to do with Boeing. The Dreamliner is a modern rock solid airplane. They don’t just fall out of the sky. The captain known to be suffering from mental health problems crashed the plane, plain and simple.
Two Muslim pilots.
Ethiopia would not allow Boeing and USA investigators to visit the crash site or examine the wreckage for more than a week.
Two Muslim pilots also in the the Indonesia 737 MAX crash into the Pacific Ocean in 2018.
Although in relatively shallow coastal water, it took several weeks before Boeing and USA experts had full access.
