The price of meat at Walmart’s near us are TERRIBLE compared to every other grocery store. And its not even close.

I've discovered that each grocery store has its own prices for various items, so I'll go to one of four grocery stores for different things: chicken at one, hamburger at another, various juices at another, other miscellaneous items at one or the other. Which store I go to depends on what I'm after. It's a pain, but that's the world we live in now.

What’s the official age of “senior” for discounts? Asking for a friend that has a birthday coming up in 6 days that ends with the number zero;)

I do the same thing.

I get alot of the Staples cheap at LIDLE.....but I dont like their meat....which is also strangly expsnive most times.

So I got to HArris Teeter or Food Lion (Norht Carolina) for meat..and whatever esle is on sale.

And when I shop...I ONLY buy meat that is on sale....along with just about everything else.

If I am strict about it...then by my estimation I save 15%-20% overall in a year on food expenses by simply not buy anything at full price.

I was just at Walmart. The price of a six pack of Coke jumped up from $4 to $6. It seemed to be an outlier because the rest of my groceries cost about the same as my last shopping excursion.

AI does have some good applications. It’s the ‘using it for evil’ part that unnerves me!

“KEEPING GROCERY STORE CARTS IN BETTER WORKING ORDER...”

I was at The Pig a while ago and the hard plastic cover on the handle of the cart was broken on one end. I cut myself enough to be dripping blood!

I went to the Service Desk for a paper towel or SOMETHING to stem to flow. The Manager was really caring about it and got me patched up.

The next week ALL of those plastic covers with the sharp edges were OFF the shopping carts. Not happy to have been the Guinea Pig, but good on them for taking care of the matter

Blood in the aisles of a supermarket is NEVER a good look no matter WHERE you shop! ;)

It varies by store, but it’s 62 at The Pig.

I always ask for a Military of Senior discount and take the one that’s higher, though they’re usually only 10%.

Hey! A dollar here and a dollar there and pretty soon you’re retired early with cash in Hard Assets, Baby! :)

“Ever notice that off brand items don’t go up on prices.”

You could be right on some things; I rarely buy a National Brand unless it’s a really good deal. But, Walmart French Bread went up to $1.25 from a dollar; same with their brand of English Muffins.

I always shop their discount rack for bakery - sometimes just for treats for the chickens, but I will buy a marked-down Croissant from time to time for a nice sandwich. $1.25 for six. There’s easily $1.25 worth of BUTTER in them, for sure. ;)

I would need a bone saw to do anything with it. Sucker is 15 inches long and my biggest pot of the 16 qt pressure cooker and not big enough. I suppose a big hammer would work or get a food grade hacksaw blade.

Lamb. Sure thing Cargill.

Walmart is inferior to Amazon in variety, as it its website, but not on food and house-brand items. Thank God we can buy such.

Yes. It's both a blessing and a curse. But whether we like it or not, whether we want to be involved in its world or not, whether we want to try to understand it or not, it's here and it is only going to get smarter and more powerful.

And, as the President has said, the country that leads the AI race will be the country that leads the world. Ergo, it is a new cold war with China and anyone else who joins the race. Those who say we Americans should just say no to AI don't grasp that fact.

It's a little bit like an alien spaceship landed and out popped this amazing technological genie as a gift. And now we realize it isn't just a gift; we just stepped into a new reality where almost anything we can imagine is possible.

It's beyond scary. But being scared doesn't help because we must figure out this technology before our enemies and other assorted evil people figure it out.

And, as if that isn't enough of a problem, this new technology is evolving. It is getting more powerful in ways we cannot even imagine.

All that said, it is still just a tool, if a very powerful one. We must figure it out so we can use it for good and defend ourselves from those who will use if for evil (and they most certainly will).

An old adage is key here:

"Know thine enemy."
And in this case, it means knowing inside and out the technology he will use as a weapon against us and how we might use that very same technology to defend ourselves from him.

As you can see, all this raises a major theological issue. If there is a God (and I am completely convinced there is), this is a good time for him to intervene. ;-)

“...this is a good time for him to intervene. ;-)”

Amen to that!

Another concern is all the AI ‘Data Farms’ that are sprouting up. WI already has one near Beaver Dam and another one planned near De Forest - and maybe a Buc-ee’s out there, too! And the new Amazon ‘facility’ is going up outside of Cottage Grove - it looks like a Super Max Prison! Those buildings are going to deplete groundwater and hog up all the electricity for miles around. They are all located in small towns.

Hard to believe the EnviroWeenies aren’t swingin’ from the chandeliers over these massive buildings and energy hogs.

Here’s my understanding of those issues:

Most of the fear about data centers “using up all the water” comes from older facilities that relied on evaporative cooling. I think the new AI data centers being built in Wisconsin are using closed-loop or air-based cooling systems that don’t significantly consume groundwater. They’re basically giant radiators—the same water circulates and doesn’t get evaporated. Counties now require this, and Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon have to document their water usage publicly.

As for energy, it’s true that AI data centers draw huge amounts of power, but the idea that they’ll “hog up electricity for miles” overlooks the fact that the entire U.S. grid is already being upgraded to meet this new demand. Utilities are adding new power plants, new substations, new transmission lines, and new high-voltage infrastructure specifically because AI is forcing a modernization of the grid. That work is already ramping up.
