Stephen A. Smith challenges Michelle Obama's suggestion that America isn't ready for a female president
Fox News ^ | November 18, 2025 | Marc Tamasco

Stephen A. Smith is pushing back on former first lady Michelle Obama's suggestion that Americans are "not ready" to elect a woman to the White House.

On Monday's episode of "Straight Shooter," host Smith pointed to the newly elected governor-elects Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J., and Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., as proof that Americans are willing to vote for female leaders, as well as noting that Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., won her election and that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in the 2016 presidential election.

"Didn't we just see an election take place last month where a woman won the gubernatorial seat in New Jersey — Mikie Sherrill? Didn't we just see Abigail Spanberger win in Virginia — the gubernatorial seat? Isn't Kathy Hochul the governor of New York? Am I missing something?" Smith asked. "Maybe I need to go back to the 2016 election with Hillary Rodham Clinton. Didn't she win the popular vote in the United States?"

Pointing to Clinton's 2.9 million-vote margin over President Donald Trump in 2016, Smith asked, "What do you mean we weren't ready?"

"Weren't there White women who voted for Donald Trump? Not just White men. Didn't the Blacks show up for Hillary Rodham Clinton? Didn't Hispanics show up for Hillary Rodham Clinton? Wasn't it Hillary Rodham Clinton who spent the last few days neglecting to campaign in places like Michigan or Wisconsin or Pennsylvania or places like that while [Trump] was everywhere?" he continued. "Y'all remember that?"

Steven A. Smith is the primary reason I don’t watch ESPN anymore.

He is a loudmouth no more qualified to weigh in on politics than he is on sports.

Sarah Palin was a rising star back in 2008. Did Michelle Obama back Sarah Palin based on Palin’s gender?

That would be a no.

True dat. Country was nearly destroyed by America’s previous obsession with fads, trends, and being considered “hip” and “with it”.

If a woman emerges that is up to the job, fine. Tulsi Gabbard MIGHT be in that (very small) group.

But NO. MORE. PANDERING. That’s how nations die.

This kind of silliness might be entertained during highly prosperous times. We’re nowhere near one.

I would vote for the equivalent of a Golda Maier or Margaret Thacher.

You could argue that the time was right for a female President during the '90s after the Cold War and before 9/11.

Michelle can’t be talking about herself. We went through 8 years, maybe 12, of her husband in the Oval Office and he’s much more of a woman than she is.

No doubt there were windows of time in which it could have happened. Decades of Hillary, Nancy, and Kamala and their obnoxious supporters have soured the public on the idea.

Do you think THAT particular smart, strong woman exists? So far, all I see are women who have one or the other quality, but not both. Ok, I know of several in my personal life, but they aren’t running for office anywhere. They have their noses to the grindstone.

She’s more full of testosterone than every Presidential Candidate over the past 40 years ‘cept for Reagan and Trump.

After a few years of managing Arkansas, she’ll be pretty hard to beat.

I would vote for Tulsi or Sarah in a heartbeat.

And I guess in liberals’ world, Sarah Palin isn’t a woman. See only liberal blacks and women count to them.

And yet, the most political damage to Palin was done by McCain…a guy….yet they never came to her defense.

Fakes.

Is there any subject matter Stephen A. Smith isn't expert in?
