@BethRigby
Chatter has been swirling for days about a challenge to Starmer. As per @patrickkmaguire, I was also told this week by PM allies that Starmer will fight any challenge to his leadership rather than stand aside as No 10 operation goes on the attack ahead of a difficult Budget.
The argument being made by PM allies is that any challenge would precipitate a drawn-out leadership election process, will spook the markets, and only create more chaos and further damage Labour brand. Am told that the PM is determined to fight on and has no intention of giving way just 18 months into this term.
The fightback has been precipitated by fears that the PLP might move after the Budget and the name I was told by a PM ally attached to that is Wes Streeting.
A spox for Streeting has been forced to deny this all on record:“These claims are categorically untrue. Wes’s focus has entirely been on cutting waiting lists for the first time in 15 years, recruiting 2,500 more GPs, and rebuilding the NHS that saved his life.”
That's where we are at as of this evening. But as for the coming days/weeks, one informed senior figure told me this week that any move against KS would be far more likely to come after May rather than the Budget.
This figure argued that many in the PLP could probably get around a combination of tax rises for wealthier workers/pensioners/landlords and more support for parents with more than two children in the Budget - if that is what No 10 do, and any challenge, if it comes, would hinge on the ballot box test in the May elections.
There is a settled view among some very senior figures in the party that Starmer lacks the charisma and communication skills to take on Farage and win over the public (particuarly if/when he breaks a bunch of manifesto pledges)... will have lots more on the Electoral Dysfunction pod with @RuthDavidsonPC & @HarrietHarman later this week

In other words, they need to find someone who can lie to the public more convincingly than Starmer does.
So are the conservatives simply dead?
Never hear of them...
Just get the BBC editor who damn near started a civil war in the US assuming zir didn’t.
You ever hear anything from RINOs either? Just transatlantic versions of each other.
Starmer needs to go.
