I liked "Tommy" but the baked beans scene should have been cut out.
“What did Johnny say after that?”
I’ll have to watch to the very end sometime to find out! I was mesmerized, but raking leaves called.
She got a best actress Oscar nomination for “Tommy’s.
“Showgirls” is like “Starship Troopers,” another Paul Verhoeven film: totally misunderstood. It was supposed to be an over-the-top brutal satire of Hollywood, as ST was supposed to be a satire critical of fascism. No one got it until decades later. He had the same situation with “Flesh and Blood,” which bombed horribly and now is seen as brilliant.
leave it to degenerate hollywood to take a girl from a mostly wholesome high school show and steal her innocence by putting her in a NC-17 film, thus compromising the innocence of those who watched saved by the bell growing up and turning her into a sex fiend in her next role. Satanic Hollywood lives for destroying innocence, and even though it was her choice to do this, hollywood sickos took great joy in turning something wholesome into something sick and trashy and poisoning the minds of millions who watched it. These people are sick af and they’re really proud of it. They take great pleasure in mocking normal Godly wholesome values.
It IS a bad movie. But in a campy, over-the-top basis.
My favorite scene was when she absolutely beat the snot out of the guy who raped her friend.
It CAN be a legit guilty pleasure if you can look past the nonstop pornographic images.
Nothing could top The Who’s 1970 Isle of Wight show.
And RoboCop was meant to be a commentary on modern society, especially corporatism and consumerism.
The WHO is arguably the greatest live band ever.
I never saw them with Moon. But their live Quadrophenia tour in 2013 was a quai-religious experience. Bloody brilliant.
I always felt like I was getting a sincere show when I saw them. And they rock.
Roger took good care of himself over the decades. As such, it’s painful to see him age more harshly than Pete.
Never could decide who was the sexiest woman alive between Ann Margaret and Raquel Welch.
Vanessa Berkley’s big-screen debut has gone from unmitigated disaster to cult camp classic.
<><>Paul Verhoeven’s risqué provocation starred Berkley as Nomi Malone,
<><>she was a Vegas transplant w/ nothing but dreams of dancing.
<><>The NC-17 film was roundly panned upon release,
<><>and bombed hard at the box office.
<><>Berkley faced critics’ unrelenting wrath
<><>now characterizes the period since as “30 years of building blocks.”
Why did she bear the brunt of it? it was a terrible movie so what.... lots of terrible movies get made. I seem to remember Kyle McClachlan and Gina Gershon being in it too.... didn’t kill their careers.
She didn’t say no. And her character on SBTB wasn’t an innocent little thing.
I remember when it came out, I did not think it was that bad. I liked Elizabeth Berkley and of course it had the amazing Gina Gershon.
Keith Moon played That Motorized
Pipe Organ-—what a Hoot!
I believe there is Four different
Versions of “TOMMY” And Elton John gets
Top Rating for The Pinball Wizard.
.
Showgirls is still a flop.
I never saw “Showgirls” but I remember it being talked about when it came out. I think a couple of my guy friends saw it.
“Tommy” was good. At least my friends and I liked it. And yes, Keith Moon was great as pervy Uncle Ernie.
The Who always put on a great show back in their heyday. I was blessed to see them with Keith Moon the first time I saw them around 1976. I saw them several times in the 80s as well.
Somehow I missed the Quadrophenia tour. That must have been in my overseas days, because I would have made an effort to see that.
