Then there is the truly incredible voice of Michael McDonald, no matter what one thinks of what happened to the Doobie Brothers and Johnston who created the original band.
Here in 2024 on Yacht Rock- McDonald on his “What a Fool Believes” with an antique Kenny Loggins.

According to Billboard Magazine, McCartney is consistently one of the highest earning concert draws in the World and regularly fills stadiums like the one I saw him in in 2019.
My brother and I went to see the 40th (I think) anniversary of “Frampton Comes Alive” in a large theater. My brother had a great line. He said “that guy sounds like Peter Frampton but looks like Dick Cheney”.
I remember when I saw a video of a contemporary concert by Neil Diamond. It’s not the same without his hair.
Yikes.
Not always. I saw jazz legend Roy Haynes when he was in his 80’s, and he looked (and played) better than many men in their 50’s. Tomorrow will be the one year anniversary of his passing at the age of 99. RIP, Roy, one of the best to ever hold the sticks.
Zach Adkins has some videos about rock stars and wigs - "yes, no, maybe". They're not really tabloid but more of a "so now you know the rest of the story".

Some of the performers have made funny comments over the years.
"Is that your real hair?" ~"Absolutely. I paid good money for it."
"How long does it take you to do your hair?" ~"I don't know. I'm not in the room when they do it."
I’ve got the album Pat Metheny did with him and Dave Holland.
The workout seems to keep Carl Palmer in pretty good shape for an old geezer.
I believe Carl is a lifelong teetotaler.
And Dick Cheney ain't lookin' too good lately.
That and martial arts training.
Ringo held up well.
I remember when I was a teenager 40 something years ago when we went to concerts. Never once did I say, “man I can’t wait to go see these guys play music when they are in their 80’s!”
A lot of rockers who are still at it in their 70’s and 80’s were heard to say in their youth that they can’t imagine playing rock past the age of 40 (or 50). Some even said 30, but nobody believed them.
“I only meant to do it for two years. I guess the band would just disperse one day and say goodbye. I would continue to write and sing, but I’d rather be dead than sing ‘Satisfaction’ when I’m 45.”
- Mick Jagger (in 1975)
Rings didn’t drum, he kept time and beat. Way different than a Peart, Moon or Collin’s whose drumming was sometimes bigger than the song. Those guys were drum virtuoso’s whose drumming wore themselves out every night. I love Ringo but he just sat there and smiled and tapped his hi hat. Nothing wrong with that.
Ringo is a Pop drummer and a good one, but I’ve never heard him do anything difficult or stressful to do. Maybe he has, but I really don’t think anything he’s done was difficult. Imho.
One of my favorites and I always thought he was on speed and would croak, he was lightning fast, maybe still is. Some very powerful drumming & percussion.
