Carl Junction (MO)Police Department has two brand new electric vehicles from the Tesla Model Y line. One is for the detective division while the other is for the patrol division. Officer Amos Bindel has been driving it and told us the performance has been great.

When he has to run the AC or heater in summer and winter, it will cost more.
One of the major differences is no road use taxes are included in the cost of the electricity.

The city I worked for bought a bunch of CNG patrol cars. The mileage was so terrible that if they got in a pursuit, they would end up quitting early when it ran out of fuel. I’m imagining that a battery powered car is going to have the same problem.

They’ll have their own chargers so no problem there. They will be fast, that will help, especially with supercars and motorcycles. It will be interesting to see how they hold up under police use. I used to hear stories about brake pads being replaced every two weeks for example. Police cruiser tires have short lives too.
They’ll be put to a good test, that’s for sure.
The suspect just needs to keep driving at high speed when being chased until the electric car blows up.
MO has a separate annual tax on 100% electric vehicles.
