WASHINGTON – Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today attempted to pass three bills via unanimous consent that would have blocked pay to Members of Congress and restored pay to federal workers during the government shutdown on its 37th day. Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) objected and blocked the bills from passing unanimously.
After Paul objected to Kennedy’s first bill, the No Shutdown Paychecks to Politicians Act, Kennedy also attempted to pass his Withhold Member Pay During Shutdowns Act. Paul objected, arguing that all federal employees who have worked through the shutdown should get paid.

Rand paul blocked stopping pay to congress......I guess some government workers are more equal than others
-
The constitution would have to be changed in order to stop paying lawmakers.
Article I, Section 6: This section states that “Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States”.
Congress shutdown the government so they should be the first to get NO PAY
Article I, Section 6: This section states that “Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States”.
No, you don’t. Since the phrase “to be ascertained by Law,” is there, perhaps a statute change at most.
He’s only for cutting spending until it’s his pay that gets cut.
This is your guy. Not so interested in cutting government waste nor, is he?
I’m sure Congress could “ascertain by Law” to suspend pay under whatever circumstances they wish.
I reached out to him.....he’s radio silent......what a shocker
“He’s only for cutting spending until it’s his pay that gets cut.”
That sums up so many in Congress....
Speaks for itself with Paul and the “republicans” doesn’t it.
Preserve and protect their wallet and let their constituents go hungry. Republicans in congress are gutless. They talk the talk, but don’t...

Been working since 1 Oct without pay, can hold-out ‘til July/August at least. Keep it shutdown with no pay..
“The constitution would have to be changed in order to stop paying lawmakers.”
That’s not really the point now is it?.....and if that WERE the case, why didn’t rand paul just state that as his reason for objecting?
That little weasel is compromised......and this proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt.
“Preserve and protect their wallet”
Ya know, I don’t even think THAT’S whet it’s about.
I think rand paul is compromised and he’s being instructed by someone nefarious......this may grow legs yet.
Aw, probably not. We have lil ole RAT judges doing the job for POTUS and Congress now.
The Constitution? meh
“Compensation for their Services”.
They aren’t performing their services for the people. Right there is the loophole for an argument.
Compensation? They have been overpaid for decades!
After all of the 3am pay raises...
That should be headline news, but no .....
Libertarian principles stop at Paul’s pocket, like all his other lies.
“”Rand paul blocked stopping pay to congress......I guess some government workers are more equal than others-””

Nah, it’s just that, by standing with the rabid, radical left... America’s enemy within... Rand Paul is self-identifying as what he actually is...
and has been all along. No virtue involved with his signaling.
It is amazing, how many in congress become millionaires AFTER being elected isn’t it.......if I didn’t know better, I’d say something improper may be going on......but that can’t be.....can it? 🤔
