The guidance instructs consular officers to deny visas to applicants deemed likely to rely on public benefits, weighing a wide range of factors including health, age, English proficiency, finances and even potential need for long-term medical care.

Since the founding, US immigration policies were against Public charge immigrants. The Ellis island returned all who were likely to become public charge, by not having enough funds, not having sponsors or being sick. If you tried to legally immigrate, you have to sign promise of avoid public charge for at least 5 years. But the doo gooders made us to stop that. Instead there are many immigrants, especially relatives of current immigrant, who treat US as cash cow for free welfare, medical care and pension. This has to stop! US is NOT there to provide welfare for the whole world!

This remains me of my family history.
Two Swedish brothers tried to immigrate to the US like 150 years ago.
They, unfortunately, could only scramble the required amount of money for one person. So one went through the check point on Ellis Island and presented the money.
Then, after he succeeded, he somehow passed that money back to his brother behind.
And voila, he got through too!

Well, I guess, we are illegals too!🤣

I have worked with many legal immigrants who were constantly going to hearings and meetings to keep their visa current. They would have never dreamed of collecting welfare. One even had to visit the regional state prison to visit the doctor who had first given his family the medical exams to prove they were not ill.

Now, walk right in and say “amnesty” and you’re living the life courtesy of the stupid gringo.

Do it the way other countries do it. If you want to live here, you need at least $100k deposited in a US bank.

It was good enough for my German mother in 1956.

This is the way it was previously done before 1965. You had to have a sponsor and not be a burden to taxpayers.
