The Democrat CR would NOT end the shutdown.

IF the Republican CR passed the Senate today, the President could sign the bill and the government would immediately re-open, right?

HOWEVER, the Democrat 'CR' has NOT been passed by the House of Representatives. THEREFORE, even if passed by the Senate, the Democrat bill would need to go BACK to the HOUSE, to be voted on by them, mostly Republicans.

This would go right back to major budget negotiations and the government would stay shut down. So Schumer and the Democrats are lying (surprise) when they say that the Republicans in the Senate can solve this immediately. Am I right?

I haven't heard anyone ask the democrats about this. Nor have the Republicans specifically pointed this out.

The CR has passed the House. There is no Democrat CR.

The “clean” CR originated in the House and was passed by them. It then went to the Senate for consideration. It was brought up for a vote 13 times (or 14 now?), and the majority of the Senate voted to pass it. But due to the Senate’s “filibuster” rule, they did not reach the 60-vote threshold required to advance the bill to President Trump for signature. If the Senate would pass the bill as sent to them by the House, Trump would sign it immediately. It does NOT need to go back to the House again.

You literally just need a handful of Democrat senators to put country over party and vote to pass the bill.

It’s a vanity, not a news article. The poster is talking about changing the CR to include the demands the Democrats want, which is an exyention of the sunsities for the SCS (Obamacare). Her staement is correct, in that the bill would have to go back to the House chamber, because a chnge would requie that they accept the change, and then it would go back to the Senate chamber of Confress.

Correct. If the Dims tried to do this, it would be just for PR. “See, we tried to fund the govt and SNAP, but the Repubs are the ones blocking it.” But it wouldn’t go anywere.

She is talking about the demands that the Democrats are asking to be included in the CR, of addimg 1.5 tillionfor subsidies for the ACA (Obamacare) paymnt rise as the subsidies expire. It should be noted that the Demnocrats had put in the ACA subsiudy payments expiration in order to claim that it was taxes not a demand to buy a healthcare system that was a requirement to purchase, which I might add, was done on purpose in hopes that they could force the nation into a single payer system to replace private healthcare insurance plans that we have had for decades. as the healthcare costs would rise.

She is correct that any changes made to the CR, would require it to go back to the House chamber for them to either pass or reject the changes, and then go back to the Sentate chamber of Congress, if the House chamber made additional changes to the CR before they accepted the changes the Senate had made.

They only thing is that it would stop the shutdown once both Chambers of Congres had passed the CR, ans then the Presindent saigned it once he received it from Congtress. How long that would take is dependent upon how fast they could get it to pass both chambers of Congress.

I didn’t think that was how CR’s work. I thought they were “take it or leave it”. I heard they were talking about a separate bill to do all the other stuff.

So the Democrats are yelling about the House because they want them to vote for their bill? A bill that has NOT passed the House? And won’t pass with a Republican majority there.

Note that this thread is an idea posted by a FReeper, not an actual bill the Dims have posted. All of this is a hypothetical of what would happen if the Dims tried to go that route.

You are correct, that is how they normally work, but the Democrats have decided to throw a wrench into that process. They did use the topic of ACA sunsidies as their fighting point hough, ato shutdown the government, ain order to try and blame the shutwown on the Repub;icans, because their supporters don’t speak much Engish, they are not informed people, and they have no ;ove for this nation.

I'm missing good eyesight as well, and it is not correctable. If I live long enough, I will eventually go blind from my macular degeneration.

But hey, I still try to get it all correct.

Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I do not. 😁🤙

Hopefully, you will never face that condition. 😁🤙

SCS should have been ACA, I was a key off. However, I also said Obamacare. I just failed to see my mistype, because I was being lazy with my editing read.

Yes, indeed if in fact, a Democrat, CR was voted on in the Senate and passed the Senate. It would then have to return to the house because the current version of the CR is a Republican CR passed in the house and referred to the Senate for affirmation.

You’re correct this is not fake news. This is a hypothetical that has not occurred. The only CR currently before the Senate for vote because it is controlled by soon is the one referred to the Senate by the house Republicans and smattering of Democrats.

It is a shame that some people haven’t the notion of what you’re talking about
