The US military has carried out another lethal strike on alleged drug smugglers in the Caribbean Sea, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Saturday.
Hegseth in a social media posting said the vessel was operated by a US-designated terrorist organization but did not name which group was targeted. He said three people were killed in the strike.
It’s at least the 15th such strike carried out by the US military in the Caribbean or eastern Pacific since early September.
“This vessel—like EVERY OTHER—was known by our intelligence to be involved in illicit narcotics smuggling, was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route, and carrying narcotics,” Hegseth said in a posting on X.
The US military has now killed at least 64 people in the strikes.
Trump has justified the attacks as a necessary escalation to stem the flow of drugs into the United States. He has asserted the US is engaged in an “armed conflict” with drug cartels, relying on the same legal authority used by the Bush administration when it declared a war on terrorism after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
US lawmakers have been repeatedly rebuffed by the White House in their demand that the administration release more information about the legal justification for the strikes as well as greater details about which cartels have been targeted and the individuals killed.
Hegseth in his Saturday posting announcing the latest strike said “narco-terrorists are bringing drugs to our shores to poison Americans at home” and the Defense Department “will treat them EXACTLY how we treated Al-Qaeda.”

“alleged”
But, but, what were their names? They deserve a trial, it’s guaranteed in the Constitution. /s/
It’s always “alleged”. A stone cold murdering rapist can be caught on camera doing his deeds and even confess to it and it will still be called “alleged”.
Vermin journos say Trump hasn’t presented evidence to them.
As if the President should get the nod from them before taking action.
“Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Saturday.”
Apparently, the AP never got the memo about Pete’s new scarier title.
I sure Rand Paul got their names first. That’s very important, y’know.
Maybe a brave journo should embed with one of the great Venezuelan fishermen?
They must be on drugs themselves. Why they hell would anyone get on that boat when they damn well know they’re gonna be blown to pieces?
Maybe many get through?
I’m all for blowing these boats out of the water
But - we don’t know for instance - how many boats have gotten through.
Maybe the odds are good.
I haven’t seen anything written about fentanyl or cocaine shortages
Blown sky high above their own supply.
With what the U.S. is doing in that part of the world, you’d think REAL fishermen would fish somewhere other than where drug boats go...
You are forgetting how our government is structured. The Supreme Court is often wrongly thought of as the highest power in the land. NOT!
Journalists are. They are the final judges on what is morally, politically and religiously right or wrong. If you don’t believe me, just ask a journalist or a squirmy Republican politician.

That means it’s not “alleged.”
Those tricky fish are disguised as Kilos of cocaine. The drivers don’t care much for the taste. They just love the smell.
Real fishermen do not use “go-fast” boats that go 40 plus knots in the open ocean.
One thing’s obvious: these people are not delivering Amazon packages.
