Bryant Gumbel Hospitalized in NYC
TMZ ^ | October 21, 2025 | Staff

Bryant Gumbel is currently hospitalized in NYC after some sort of "medical emergency" ... TMZ has learned.

Sources with direct knowledge tell us, the former "Today" cohost was transported Monday, just after 9 PM, from his Manhattan apartment building.

We're told first responders had Bryant on a gurney, as they left the building and took him to a nearby hospital where he remains as of Tuesday afternoon.

It's unclear what happened to the 77-year-old broadcasting legend, but we know he is still getting treatment. We've reached out to his reps for comment ... so far, no word back.

We spoke to a family member, who told us Bryant is "okay," but wouldn't reveal any further detail about his condition.

Bryant formerly served as cohost of NBC's long-running morning show for 15 years -- first with Jane Pauley and Katie Couric. He was also a sportscaster and host of HBO's acclaimed investigative series "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel".

An impacted cranium, perhaps?

I remember my late mom’s comment back in the day watching him on the Today Show.

“He sounds like he’s wearing shorts that are two sizes too small”.

LOL.

A liberal gasbag but hope he has a speedy recovery.

I think it is likely he lives in a rent controlled apartment.

His late brother, Greg, was a good guy.

While Bryant wasn’t my cup of tea, I don’t want anyone suffering in a hospital.

If you’re reading this (extremely unlikely): Get well soon, Bryant!

I see his sportscaster brother Greg Gumbel, who I liked a fair amount, passed away 10 months ago, from pancreatic cancer.

A tough year for the Gumbel family.

I remember they did a nice tribute to Greg at the last March Madness, he was definitely missed.

Kevin an NYC apartment and CA apartment are two different things. NYC ones are prime real estate for upper income level residents and sell for millions. They often include things like 24 hour doorman service and sweeping views of Central Park and/or the most iconic skyline on the top floors…The oldest buildings boast of historic architecture and ornate craftsmanship by Europe and America’s greatest…

(Apartments go for millions, and for the even wealthier than wealthy: “houses” can go for tens of millions, have elevators, full time staff from chauffeurs to chefs living in the “basement” or an adjoining property. A home may be straight from the Gilded Age and include all sorts of priceless nooks and crannies.)

“apartments” in CA are different than NYC. Other than a select few luxury condos and high rise properties in LA/San Fran, apartments typically mean “lower level” and the wealthy live in houses for the most part.

But it’s not uncommon for a millionaire/billionaire or celebrity to have an NYC apartment and a CA estate…can go for the same asking price so yeah. :)

In NYC, millionaires buy their apartments, and they pay millions for them.

I visited somebody in an apartment in "The Dakota" (John Lennon's old digs). It was two floors, and while more sterile than a house, was not wanting for room. Adjacent to Central Park as well. Not fo me, but it isn'y like the Seinfeld TV show or even Felix and Oscar's place.

I remember Bryant Gumble introducing a segment on his show this way:

"Whether you're a liberal or a racist..."

I’ve never watched any of his programs except for his interview of my Night Before Christmas research. Much as I appreciate that one, I can’t bring myself to watch liberal slants. I certainly wish him well.

Ron Brown funeral. 1996 or thereabouts. Bryant Gumbel took a cheap shot at Robert Dole for not attending.

Glad I never watched him. I’d rather get my news from trusted sources. Like FR.
