>>”It doesn’t forgive or somehow excuse the Israelis for their horrific deeds, though. Israel has killed at least an order of magnitude more innocent people in this war than Hamas ever has.”

Then you must truly despise the United States for all the casualties it inflicted during WWII, and in particular the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. Same with the Houthis in Yemen who have been engaged in a civil war with the Sunni’s since 2014. It’s estimated that around 370,000 lives have been lost in that conflict. That dwarfs even the largest estimates of the loss of life in Gaza.

The issue is that Hamas and the Palestinians are not a serious military threat to Israel. They are simply an irritant.

Israel, on the other hand, seems to just want to kill as many Palestinians as possible, regardless of the situation. The power balance is insane, and the world allowed them to simply "shoot fish in a barrel" for over a year.

Well, if you really want to get into it, history now pretty conclusively shows that the bombs were not necessary, and were used mostly to put on a show for the benefit of Stalin.

Japan was going to surrender anyway, and we killed thousands of people (including the biggest Christian community in Japan) for no reason.

By the way, I believed for most of my life the story that the bombs were a "necessary evil". It's disconcerting to learn that it wasn't the case.

Let me be blunt. You are so FOS. Seriously. Chock full of nasty stuff. And yeah, I consider propaganda (politically-based and inspired lies) to be nasty stuff and have for over three decades.

Hamas inflicted the worst slaughter upon Israel since the Nazi-Hitler holocaust. On a clear day, out of the blue, they invaded Gaza and preyed upon over a thousand innocent CIVILIANS, that were quietly living their lives and trying to enjoy the life they were given... only to be inflicted with the worst nightmare of sub-human (demonic) depravity straight from Hell. Such was a display of savagery that truly shocked the entire world.

Your lies here only reveal your agenda... ie that you’re on the same side of that evil savagery, but apparently... you’re not bright enough to gleen that very obvious fact.

My normal response to someone like you on a bad day would be something like...”eff off”.... or maybe something like “go back to hell”. Silly, but real. However... since I’m in a real good mood today, I’ll refrain from that bit of emotional response and just say....

have a ‘well deserved’ life. And I am a true fan of God’s way of inflicting Karma upon the much deserved... in this life and in the next.

Ok, now I get it. You are either a misguided (brainwashed/indoctrinated by leftists in public school?) child posting via his parents’ internet connection... or a senile, Biden-like dementia patient posting, no doubt, from a ‘secure’ facility. I’m not even curious as to which it is. At this point, I just want the sublime stupidity of your posts to go away...lol.

The families of the Israeli victims murdered on Oct 7th would hardly call it a mere irritation. Also Candice has turned into a Joo-hating pickaninny. You can safely disregard her.

Where are you getting your information? Japan was going to surrender? Then why didn’t they? Why did it take them 9 days from the bombing of Hiroshima to surrender even after a second bomb on Nagasaki was dropped?. And BTW, both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were involved in large scale weapons manufacturing during the war and had strategic importance from that perspective.

As far as not being necessary, that’s only true if you think saving the lives of the hundreds of thousands of Americans that would have been lost from a ground invasion, was not necessary.

It seems? Based on what? Hamas and leftwing talking points? Have you been on the ground in Gaza observing events or are you just taking Hamas’s word for it?

That's my point. A ground invasion was never going to be necessary, and the USA knew it at the time.

We all believed this narrative for many years, as it *made sense*, and we had no reason to mistrust our government

Recently declassified documents and first-person contemporaneous sources make it clear that this narrative was fake, and that the goal was to maximize destruction to spook the Soviets.

All that death and destruction was for naught. Just gratuitous slaughter.

So you keep telling me. Where’s your proof? Do you have a link to these declassified documents? Who were they written by and what do they say?

First, look at the 1946 US Strategic Bombing Survey. I have a link, but it gives a message about the shutdown (https://www.trumanlibrary.gov/node/311491). Maybe you can find another. They essentially concluded that Japan would have surrendered by November 1945 at the latest, even without the atomic bombs, Soviet entry, or any invasion plans.

There are also some DoE docs relating to the Manhattan Project which indicate a political driver. The idea being that use of the bombs would make it less likely the USSR would have some say in the aftermath.

Henry Stimson also indicated in later writings that waiting for Soviet entry and negotiating on Japan's desire to keep the emperor could have avoided the bombs. He believed Japan was "essentially defeated" by July.

Ask a good AI like Grok to do a summary of the latest info, if you are interested.

Again, all of this shook my worldview a bit when I started to dig into it.
