Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A jaguar seen struggling to swim in a Brazilian river was rescued by authorities and taken to a veterinary clinic, where it was treated for gunshot wounds.
Military police and wildlife experts created an improvised flotation device when the feline was seen struggling in the water of the Rio Negro, near Ponta Negra Beach.

Question, are jaguars a menace to farmers and their livestock?
By all means, get the Jag out of the river. Let the Merc go.
Who could shoot such a beautiful animal? I thought of piranhas also not knowing anything about them other than being in bodies of water in South America..
Another entitled Jag’ thinks it can go anywhere. Breaks down in the middle of the river and authorities have to fish it out. Is anyone surprised?🙄
😉
Aw, ya beat me to it! Well done!
Certainly there are poachers who would do it for profit or a$$holes who would do it for fun, but there could also be subsistence farmers who are just plain tired of their chickens and goats being mutilated.
Yep, she is a real beauty.
That coat is fabulous.
Jaguars are notoriously easy to track. You just follow the oil drips on the pavement :)
LOL!
There’s a post on Twitter/X about this.
Was it an XJS?
Agreed. As a kid/young man, I could kill quite easily. Not so much anymore...
😆
...and...
“I saw the Jag slide into the curve...”
I well know your feelings about growing older and reverring life. I just spent some time rescuing a stink bug that I inadvertently sucked into the vacuum. Had to tear apart a perfectly good vacuum bag. I dumped the bag, and the bug, into the woods.
Not quite as heroic as pulling the jaguar out of the river, but a noble deed nonetheless.
I absolutely completely 100% understand and agree! That stink bug is now out sharing his story with his disbelieving friends... ‘An alien abduction, you say? And then they released you? My, that IS interesting!’
“...The jaguar was rescued, surprising the piranha didn’t smell blood in the water...”
I read several articles when I was still taking Animal Biology in Uni, which said that jaguars produce a compound in their coat oils, which acts as a repellant to piranhas.
There’s no hope for jaguar after that woke advertising campaign
