U.S. student visas fall, China surpasses India

The United States issued nearly one-fifth fewer student visas in August as the Trump administration tightened immigration rules, new data show. India, once the top source of U.S. international students, experienced the largest drop, while China became the leading country of origin.

According to the International Trade Administration, the U.S. issued 313,138 student visas in August, the most common month for new university enrollments. This represents a 19.1 percent decrease compared with the same month in 2024.

Student visas for Indian nationals fell dramatically by 44.5 percent over the past year. India had previously been the largest source of foreign students in the U.S., making the decline a significant shift in global student mobility.

Visa issuance for Chinese students also dropped, but at a much slower rate. In August, 86,647 visas went to students from mainland China—more than double the number issued to Indian students.

Experts note that these figures reflect new visa issuances only. Many international students remain in the U.S. on previously issued visas.

For those looking for a way to destroy a pillar of leftism in the US, this article offers a key.

Instead of admitting 300k+ foreign students (they pay exorbitant fees/tuition), cap it at 10,000 per month and an overall cap of 100,000 per year.

NEVER more than 400,000 total outstanding.

It will crush Big Academia.

Have you seen Chinese students walking around. They almost seem like a different species. Never smiling, always looking like the sat on a cactus. And when you talk to one, it’s like they are not real people. Like avatars of humans, soulless behind the eyes. 80 years of communism, humanism and no God will do that, hollow you out.

The Chinese people I have known were not like that.

I told a Chinese woman that when I was a little girl, my stepfather would tell me to eat all of the food on my plate because children were starving in China.

She thought that was such a wild and funny story that she immediately called her daughter to share it.

(I never dared say to Dad that I didn’t see how what I ate affected the kids in China.)

It is possible that my Chinese friend did not know about the people who starved to death in the Great Leap Forward and that was why she found my story so funny.

We went to a WWII museum together. I ended up having to explain to her the reason we had to drop the atomic bombs on Japan. Apparently, she had never learned much about WWII when she was growing up in China.

What seemed odd to me was that she complained that the US was not as advanced as China. Her brother was a banker in Beijing, and quite wealthy. I never asked her why she decided to live in the US when she considered China so much more advanced.
