Marjorie Taylor Greene breaks with Trump over government shutdown

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has broken with Donald Trump on the issue at the centre of the government shutdown.

The US government shut down on Oct 1 after the Democrats and Republicans were unable to break the deadlock to pass a spending bill.

Democrats have demanded that tax credits introduced in 2021 to make health insurance more affordable for millions of Americans be extended, arguing that their expiration would double what low-and middle-income people who purchase health insurance through the Affordable Care Act pay on their premiums next year.

The Maga firebrand said she was “absolutely disgusted” that health insurance premiums could double when the tax credits expire at the end of the year, and that she refused to play “loyalty games”.

In a lengthy post on X, she wrote: “I’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district.”

Socialism is NEVER the answer. It only results in poor quality leading to more problems and lack of service.

Well, the choice on healthcare is between socialism, the government creates a single payer system for the poor, and fascism, the government requires everyone to buy health insurance from companies run for profit, and then subsidizes the poor to buy that insurance. To write you don't like either choice is a childish way to not choose between the two options on offer.

The ridiculous premise is that government subsidies of health care insurance somehow make medical care “affordable”.

Government subsidies ALWAYS drive up costs. Look at the cost of attending college/university: once sudsidized student loans kicked in, academic inflation skyrocketed. Universities jacked up salaries and feather-bedded administration resulting in ruinous tuition and fees that exceed the value of the product. Students accept the high cost because someone else is paying.

MTG should focus on bringing down the cost of health care services. More communism will drive up the cost and reduce the quality/quantity of service received. I wish MTG could go on “Wheel of Fortune” and buy some IQ points instead of vowels.

My family is one of the few that has avoided the ObamaCare disaster. We have a 10K deductible for health insurance that got grandfathered in, and we have never come close to needing 10K worth of care. By contrast, I know so many families that have been killed by ObamaCare premiums.

Absolutely true. The Republicans never come up with a viable health care plan. It shouldn’t be that hard to figure something out.

Before Obama are most Americans were covered through their employers. There were approximately 16 million people who fell through the cracks.

The Republicans kept arguing that we could do some type of a band aid program for those few people but they never put up an idea so as soon as the Democrats had control of both house they passed Obamacare. I have always blamed the Republicans for Obamacare.

MTG is absolutely correct.

You don't subsidies, increases the cost of healthcare insurance and premiums for millions unless you're replacing it with something better.

The healthcare system doesn't resemble a free market system. A third party is paying for most healthcare.

Reforms have to be made to bring market forces back into healthcare so it will be affordable and subsidies won't be needed.

“That’s coming directly out of your Social Security check?”

Medicare normally starts at age 65.

My full amount Social Security age is 66 years and 8 months.

I could have taken Social Security at age 62, but my benefit amount would get reduced by about 8% for every year before my full amount age.

If I take Social Security after my full amount age, my benefit amount will hopefully get increased by about 8% for every year after my full amount age, up to age 70.

I’m betting I’ll live to well over 80 years of age.

Since I am not currently getting Social Security benefits, my Part B premium has to be paid by me directly. I do that by bank account debit.

Loyalty games??? It has nothing to do with loyalty and for her to say that just proves one of three possible things.

One, she is either lying her @ss off here and using this as an excuse to thwart Trump’s agenda, or

Two, she has been totally compromised and is now acting on and carrying out whatever her ‘new masters’ are instructing her to say and do, or

Three, she’s really just that stupid. In which case she (along with many other Congressional idiots) has no place in government, much less as a “representative” of taxpaying, patriotic Americans.

“”Maybe this will dismantle Obamacare , people are just going to go without insurance.””

Anyone that is getting “lower cost” healthcare through Obamacare is basically getting their insurance on somebody else’s (taxpayers’) dime. Cry me a river when they have to face the same costs that everyone else has had to face thanks to the leftist Democrats. Obamacare should never have been passed against the will of most Americans in the first place. Let...it... die.

Yep, when we had kids, I worked for a company that didn’t offer health care. I looked in the phone book and found a broker who set me up with United for $200/mth. This was back in 2001. Co-payments were $20. Deductible for major things was $500.

After obamacare, payments for a somewhat equivalent plan were $800-1000/mth and deductibles up around $8-10k. Couldn’t afford that so we did without. When we moved to Missouri that didn’t have “enhanced medicare”, the fedgov healthcare marketplace said we didn’t make enough money to use the system and told me to go to Missouri medicare. Missouri medicare said we made too much money.

Aside from emergency room or paying cash, we were literally closed out of health care. I did not get to keep my plan or doctor.

Obamacare turned health care into a bloated bureaucracy.

It is childish for you to claim there are no other choices, that somehow you are intelligent enough to have covered all the options. You have not. Free market enterprise with no government intervention or insurance company intervention is also an affordable solution.

You are obviously ignorant of the history of the medical industry. Until insurance companies got involved in the 1950’s, medical costs were affordable. Insurance companies must operate on profit and they mean some payments for medical services to go them and that jacks the price.

Obamanocare jacked prices even further as it gave insurance and government even more of the profits.

It is childish that you think someone else should take care you.

You are not an American, are you? Foreign born and completely oblivious to our way of life? Marxists usually are.

Which is exactly why if nation makes a choice to provide healthcare to the poor, there is no reason to include the insurance companies to allow them to profit at taxpayer expense. That was my point.

I'll ignore the rest of your ad hominem rantings which don't reflect the political realities of the day.
