Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has broken with Donald Trump on the issue at the centre of the government shutdown.
The US government shut down on Oct 1 after the Democrats and Republicans were unable to break the deadlock to pass a spending bill.
Democrats have demanded that tax credits introduced in 2021 to make health insurance more affordable for millions of Americans be extended, arguing that their expiration would double what low-and middle-income people who purchase health insurance through the Affordable Care Act pay on their premiums next year.
The Maga firebrand said she was “absolutely disgusted” that health insurance premiums could double when the tax credits expire at the end of the year, and that she refused to play “loyalty games”.
In a lengthy post on X, she wrote: “I’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district.”

Delusions of grandeur. After winning a couple of elections they get wacky.
She is siding with the demoncrats on restoring the Covid era additional obamacare subsidies
“In 2023 and 2024, 80 percent of marketplace enrollees could find a plan for $10 or less per month on HealthCare.gov, the federal marketplace that operates in 31 states (19 states and the District of Columbia run their own marketplaces).”
“The enhanced subsidies have translated into higher enrollment in ACA marketplace plans and fewer uninsured people. They helped increase enrollment in the marketplaces from 12 million in 2021 to a record 24.2 million in 2025.”
“Medicare Premium Bill....Current Premium Due...Total Amount Due $555.00”
This is why IMHO the government should subsidize Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, all the Doc in a boxes, etc to have clinics next to every in store pharmacy to offer FREE medical treatments for NON EMERGENCY services. Let the corporations fill this need and free up the ERs.
The businesses would have a vested interest because they would then sell the drugs prescribed by the MD/nurse practioner/PA.
I have used the CVS Minute Clinic myself when I had a sinus infection. I knew exactly what I had. I have had sinus infections several times prior. Yet, when I called my DRs office they would NOT call in a prescription for Amoxiccian or Zithromax. I had to make an appointment and come in.
I went on CVS website, made an appointment for 45 minutes later. A half hour and I was walking out the door with Zithromax.
This happens MILLIONS of times. Not only would it clear up ERs. It gets people out of DRs offices for routine stuff like that.
Another example. I was in Rome about a year ago. Got a cold that turned into a sinus infection. Went to the pharmacy who directed me to a Free Clinic. Walked over and the Doctor asked me what I had gotten in the past. He prescribed Zithromiacin. Walked back to the Pharmacy and bought my prescription for about $16. All in about an hour.
Obamacare is already there. And there is very little good about it. But the reverse is also bad, if you define the reverse as what we all had before. That was not even insurance if you were buying your own insurance. So MTG is partially right. And when it comes to insurance or healthcare there are no right answers. The system is so bad and so fraudulent that to be for a change is good. But what change and how much change is the problem. America’s healthcare sucks. It is worse than other countries both because its the most expensive and we are sicker and die earlier than people do from most other 1st world countries.
I think this is the beginning of a deal. Like when Stefanik demanded the SALT be raised to $40,000. We all like her. I benefit a lot from this. But its the wrong thing because property taxes will just go up. I to will benefit from MTGs tax incentive. As will millions of others. But it just keeps the idiocy going. I am guessing she is not alone here. This is likely a beginning to a compromise. And since she is a sure thing in every election. She can take the hit for this one. Giving cover to others.
Use real nurses with AI and remote doctors.
MTG is becoming desperate for attention again.
Medicare Part A typically doesn’t have a premium.
Medicare Part B has a premium. Most people have it taken out of their Social Security. I won’t take Social Security until I’m 70.
My Medicare Part D plan doesn’t have a premium.
Obamacare is inflationary. It drives up healthcare costs for everyone.
The temporary Enhanced subsidies were for COVID and were super-inflationary.
Marjorie Taylor Greene is quickly becoming a hardcore Leftist.
You say that like it’s a bad thing.

I am one of most critical opponents of the government we are stuck with, but I figure it will only take about 30 days to break the back of Trump and the government. It takes two parties to do this funding tango dance and the Left can literally crash the entire system by sitting out the dance, which I believe is exactly their objective. If they had a chance of regaining control and power at the ballot box it would be one thing, but they have zero chance of doing it so blackmail is going to be the hand they play. That’s why they made their outrageous funding demands in the first place. There is no escape hatch for a no funding blackmail play in the Constitution. So get ready for no federal law enforcement, no military, no airplanes flying, etc, etc.
“no airplanes flying”
Airports could pay FAA and TSA workers.
I don’t get it, Trump says he is trying to reduce taxes or almost totally reduce taxes, by replacing taxes with tariffs. If I understand it right, when tax credits are reduced the cost of insurance will cost double or some where like that. Lets say theoretically if Trump was to eliminate taxes (which we all know isn’t probably going to happen) then their wouldn’t be no need for tax credits because their would be no taxes. So that is how I understand it, hopefully some one can fill me in a little bit more to understand what is going on here, and if my reasoning is going in the wrong direction you can hopefully correct me to get me back on the right track of what this issue really is.
I would prefer that we spend money on on Americans and legal immigrants rather than on every criminal that scuttles across our border. The democrats however are only concerned with boosting the census numbers in blue states.
Airports could pay FAA and TSA workers.

Perhaps, but that’s not the way it is currently done and I don’t believe there is a stop gap plan in place.
Legal immigration needs to stop for at least 50 years. Too much of a bad thing.
“Ultimately, a single payer system for the poor would be cheaper for taxpayers.”
Socialism is NEVER the answer. It only results in poor quality leading to more problems and lack of service.
“An important and divisive issue like healthcare requires significant debate, regular order and legislation if needed.”
No, it doesn’t. It needs government completely out of it! NOTHING in the US Constitution says government must be involved in operating commerce.
