How to judge who was right or wrong on this case? Sit on a jury, it seems convoluted as hell.

Sanchez wouldn't have been arrested if he hadn't instigated the incident.

That should be even easier to prove in a civil case.

only if one hasn’t been reading everything that is publicly known about what happened, namely that the whole thing is on video tape, and multiple witnesses back up what the 69 year old truck driver said happened: namely Sanchez entered the guy’s truck, attacked the truck driver and chased the truck driver and didn’t stop until sanchez realized he’d been seriously stabbed ... nothing really convoluted at all: simple unprovoked assault and battery on a 69 year old guy who was just doing his job at the loading dock and subsequent successful self-defense ...
