Tyler Robinson's father realized 'his son was shooter' after seeing family heirloom in media reports

The father of Charlie Kirk's alleged killer realized his son was the shooter after recognizing an unusual rifle shown in media reports of the hunt for the assassin, according to officials.

Matt Robinson allegedly told authorities that he and his wife became alarmed the day after Kirk was murdered in Utah, when they saw images of the suspect and the weapon he used on the news.

The shocked father recognized his own dad's gun in the images released by police, as Tyler Robinson's grandfather had given him the rifle as a gift before he used it to murder Kirk, officials said on Tuesday.

After recognizing the 'unique' gun, Matt Robinson texted his son, asking him for a picture of the family heirloom, which the suspect could not provide, according to police.

In a text exchanged between Tyler Robinson and his partner shared by police, the alleged killer claimed the rifle was the only evidence he left behind.

'If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence. Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on,' he allegedly wrote. 'I haven’t seen anything about them finding it.'

One thing for sure, by the time of the family gets their heirloom rifle back, the rifle will have appreciated in value thousands of times over.

I was thinking would they even want it back. I know it was his fathers and yes he would want it back for that reason but knowing what his son did with it.

What is this man to do? This is so sad.

They'll never get that rifle back.

People give firearms as gifts to family members, thinking it will become something of value to that family member. More often than not the gun is quickly dropped off at the nearest pawn shop for a few bucks. Seen it happen too many times with family.
Not too often they are used in a homicide.

Law enforcement and court decisions determine what happens to the weapon after all legal proceedings and appeals are concluded.

They will never get that rifle back.

I have a hard time believing they will get it back. Almost always, firearms used in a murder are destroyed.

Guilty verdict: A defendant who is found guilty of a felony involving a weapon will not get their weapon back. In these cases, the court will issue an order for its disposal.

No he’s speaking the truth. Stuff involving killers, there is a market for it.

Gacy’s painting of Pogo the clown, letters from killers in prison, other photos.

The father turned his kid in. Considering all that if he wants his father’s gun back he should petition the court to get it back and they should let him have it if he wants it.

I don’t blame the dad because his son was a retard.

A German Mauser 30.06 in good condition could be worth around 1,500.00 or more. I think the wife should decide it’s fate. It is not the rifle that was responsible for Charlie’s death, it was the owner of the finger that pulled the trigger that killed Charlie, may he rest in peace and may his deranged killer meet his maker.
