Polish President Vetoes Extended Ukrainian Refugee Aid Package
Armstrong Economics ^ | 26 Aug 25 | Martin Armstrong

Poland’s president has vetoed a bill that would extend aid to Ukrainian refugees. Karol Nawrocki, a nationalist conservative, commented that Ukrainians “make the effort to work in Poland” and pay taxes in the country in order to be eligible for support. Nawrocki, whose own party approved of the initial aid to Ukrainians, stated that the current financial package “places us in a situation where citizens of Poland are treated worse in their own country than our guests.”

Over 1.5 million Ukrainians have fled to Poland since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war. Poland has offered every single refugee a taxpayer-subsidized life. Ukrainians living in Poland are eligible for free housing, food benefits, health care, education, child allowances, and more. Ukrainian refugees were often favored for subsidized housing over nationals who may have been waiting years for council housing.

Nawrocki stated he was concerned with the 800+ program that provided families with children an 800 zloty monthly payment per child, regardless of income. The president felt that only those working should receive this benefit, but why should the public be paying out this fund at all?

The head of the president’s chancellery, Zbigniew Bogucki, commented that “for Ukrainians who legally work in Poland, reside, run their own business, and pay taxes, there is nothing to worry about.” Despite the similarities in culture, there is a growing discontent for Ukrainian refugees in Poland due to the government prioritizing newcomers. That is how xenophobia traditionally comes about—the last one “off the boat” is seen as the outsider.

Poland created an Aid Fund operated by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) funded partially by the European Investment Bank and the EU, which finances local governments and organizations to support Ukrainian refugees. A €2 billion loan was approved for 2025 through the Aid Fund, including €600 million disbursed by the European Investment Bank (EIB). Assistance for Ukrainian refugees in Poland is estimated to have reached around 15.9 billion zlotys (roughly €3.5 billion) this year.

Perhaps Polish leaders underestimated the duration of the war. The Polish government spent 1% of GDP on Ukraine during the first three months of the war in 2022. Poland has continued to raise military spending and direct aid for Ukraine year after year.

Yet, the president has been condemned for taking a “Poles first” stance and tightening its social program. The true nationalists do not believe he is doing enough for his nation, while the others see him as cruel. In the EU, anything aside from unconditional blind support from Ukraine is seen as a selfish act. There is no room for nationalism in Brussels.

Ukraine is the “ Drowning man”….anyone attempting to save them and getting close is dragged under with them….as we are witnessing.

8 million plus Ukrainians fled Ukraine to the EU,( 5 million Russians fled Ukraine to Russia), how’s that working out? ….very few will ever return to Ukraine. Very easy to see how Ukraine ceases to exist as a nation.

Ukrainians, the dinner guest who refused to leave.

Please call me Marty.

I run the ArmstrongEconomics scam site.

The worth of my advice can be measured by my three bankruptcies and losing over $700,000,000 of my clients' funds in bad trades.

That failed ponzi scheme got me eleven years in the federal pen.

This from today:

Polish Defense Minister, Władysław Marcin Kosiniak-Kamysz:

“If Ukraine does not come to terms with the issue of the Volhynia massacre... Then there is no chance for Ukraine to enter the European Union.”

This comes one day after Polish President Karol Nawrocki proposed criminalizing the Bandera flag, equating it with Nazi symbols—and reportedly began cutting aid for Ukrainians and their Starlink.

Admission of that would not happen ,ever. That would be an admission of their Neo- Nazi problem, Ukie Nazi hero Bandera, etc…

There is no chance now of the Ukies ever being accepted to the EU, they have strict financial guidelines. Ukraine is bankrupt, has an international rating of “ D-“, deadbeats. The EU will never accept another financial basket case.

The best solution? Carve up what is left of Ukraine giving Russia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, etc their historical territories back.

Russians practically have no gas left — endless lines of cars and trucks waiting hours just to get a few drops. Meanwhile, about 40% of Russia’s entire budget is being sucked into its own self-inflicted quagmire in Ukraine. To make matters worse, around 30% of Russia’s oil refineries have already been hit by Ukrainian strikes.
And soon… the Ukrainian Flamingos are coming to finish the job, shutting down what’s left of Russia’s gasoline production once and for all. Only then will Moscow finally kneel, beg for mercy, and end this war — including the endless slaughter of young Russian and North Korean boys on European soil.

“Peace in our time!”.

“The true nationalists do not believe he is doing enough for his nation, while the others see him as cruel.”

Meanwhile, majority agree that taking away benefits from people, who fled their country and refuse is a master of the obvious kind of thing and nothing to do with helping the actual country of Ukraine.

I say, let the EU fond all things Uke as they will. The problem is, I fear they’ll want to insist it become a NATO priority and thus ask the majority of the funding come from me and the rest of the US citizens.

“Drowning man” indeed.

"That would be an admission of their Neo- Nazi problem"

Neo-Nazism in Russia is a far-right political and militant movement in Russia. Emerging during the late Soviet era and early 1990s from white power skinheads and football hooligans, neo-Nazism in Russia has become known for a series of violent attacks and murders targeting Central Asian and Caucasian migrants. Videos of these attacks have been uploaded onto the internet by members of neo-Nazi or skinhead gangs, leading to international outcry and an eventual crackdown in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

With the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian War, Russian neo-Nazis have achieved international attention for their militant support of Russian-backed separatist forces in eastern Ukraine. Certain groups, such as the Russian Imperial Movement, have been accused of training white supremacists and neo-Nazis from other countries in Europe. The links between these groups and the Russian government, comprising a policy known as managed nationalism, have become particularly noteworthy since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed to be pursuing the "denazification" of Ukraine.[1]

“Admission of that would not happen ,ever. “

As the German army began its invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, Stalin ordered the Soviet Secret Service (NKVD) to “remove” the prison population in the USSR’s occupied territories rather than allow them to fall into German hands. This was largely accomplished through the mass murder of prisoners at various locations in Western Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, and Lithuania.

The majority of the mass executions, later termed “the 1941 NKVD Prison Massacres” by local residents, occurred in Western Ukraine. Due to a lack of reliable sources, exact numbers are impossible to determine; however, historians estimate that the NKVD killed somewhere between 10,000 and 40,000 people in dozens of prisons over the course of eight days.

The ethnic breakdown of casualties in Western Ukraine roughly corresponded to population demographics: 70 percent of the victims were Ukrainian, 20 percent Polish, and the remainder consisted of Jews and other nationalities.
