A summit between United States President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could take place this week in Europe, Sky News reported on Monday. Diplomats from the US allegedly asked their European colleagues to be ready to organize the meeting, although the exact location is currently unclear.

According to the report, Trump and Zelensky favor holding the event in Rome, while Putin prefers Geneva. Other cities, including Budapest and Helsinki, are also allegedly under consideration. Previous reports suggested the summit could take place on Friday, August 22.

People held Zoom meetings during the Covid panic.

The EU bigwigs should think of reducing their CO2 emissions, hopefully to zero.

Putin would be arrested for war crimes if he sets foot in most European countries.

There are a number of big issues.

Donetsk: The wishes of the people in the part still held by Ukraine need to be made clear to the world. Ukraine’s need for its defense assets needs to be made clear to the world.

Security Guarantees to Ukraine: Putin doesn’t want foreign forces in Ukraine. The vast majority of Americans don’t want US troops to be placed at risk or to be drawn into a foreign war. Brits and the French probably feel much the same. What I see as possible is funding and tactical defensive weapons provision for Ukraine’s defense.

“I. Open covenants of peace, openly arrived at, after which there shall be no private international understandings of any kind but diplomacy shall proceed always frankly and in the public view.”

The Russians should be asked to type up a complete long-term peace proposal.

The Ukrainians should be asked to type up a complete long-term peace proposal.

If the Russians get everything they wanted, every Russian demand would be incorporated in the final deal, which would be made public.

If the Ukrainians get everything they wanted, every Ukrainian demand would be incorporated in the final deal, which would be made public.

There’s no legitimate reason for secrecy.

That’s an interesting point.

Keeping secrets to details of negotiations unfolding largely insulates them from the media. The media will grab details and run with them and extrapolate their perception of consequences to each individual item and generate pressures from the various factions around the world who might oppose some particular detail and apply pressure to the various sides during the negotiation process.

The result of this would be that the two sides negotiating suddenly become more than two. The pressures brought from multiple different directions on to these specific two sides disrupt the whole process.

You would have two foreign ministers whose job it is to represent their presidents hearing these pressures from other sources and trying to guess what the impact will be on their presidents during the process itself.

The secrecy does make a bit of sense.

Place it under UN administration for one year (Russian troops can remain on the line of contact but Russian authorities are to have no role in administration). Allow the original inhabitants (and only the original inhabitants) to return. Restore normalcy to their lives. Hold a UN administered referendum after one year.

I hope and pray that Trump can get this done and that there is a signing ceremony in Europe this week.

——————
What I see is “ demilitarization “, after Vlad is awarded his ethnic Russian provinces. Lughansk ( already 100 percent liberated) and Donetsk a given ( Donetsk still has 25 percent more to go) and no NATO.

As for “ funding”, the Ukies have already wasted away $$$ billions of US taxpayers money….all flushed down the Ukie toilet. No more.

“Ukies have already wasted away $$$ billions of US taxpayers money”

Yes. But not anymore. US is a vastly better position economically and geopolitically after 7months of Trump.

1. US defense companies make money on weapons sold to Europe and then transferred to Ukraine.
2. US is now going to supply EU with energy and it has opened up oil leases, exploration and drilling domestically unleashing a major economic sector.
3. Russians have lost thousands of military men in combat reducing their military offensive operations for decades.
4. Russia has squandered billions on arms and equipment in a conventional war with its neighbor instead of spending on strategic weapons against the US.
5. The Russians have achieved a long term pariah status and won’t be doing much business with Europe for a long time.

I still think that a ceasefire or peace is still a ways off. In the meantime, US and allies will increase sanctions and take measures to debank and make it even harder for Russia to sell its oil on the open market.

A smaller Russia with fewer Russians is better for world peace. The Russian people are like the Iranian people. They have no real control or influence on their government.
Ukraine is culturally similar to Russia but it not Russia and its people don’t want be governed by a Russian despot or Russian puppet so they need some reliable security arrangements.

Who is worse? The person that gives a gun to someone one knowing they will use it to kill, or the person that uses that gun to kill with it.

Both have Blood on their hands.
