How CarShield Rejects Claims For Car Repairs
YouTube ^ | May 11, 2021 | Buckley's Auto Care

How CarShield operates… it’s something folks should know before calling that number.

The video talks about how CarShield will deliberately not cover certain parts. Then they claim it’s that part that went bad.

Buyer beware.

I’ve also read that CarShield will let you choose your own mechanic. Sounds good. But they will not pay standard mechanic rates.

What’s particularly galling about CarShield is how they get second-rate TV celebrities to convince poor people that they need the “protection”.

Much better I think to put the money in a bank emergency fund.

I’ve always been a Free Market guy. But today, a lot of the marketplace seems to be not much better than scams. And the corporations are only focused on squeezing as much profit as possible to benefit the top execs. Screw the workers (wages have been flat for 50 years) and screw the customers too. Providing services? Providing a quality product? Why should the corporations bother to do that? Squeeze out the profit. Nothing else matters. You can re-organize or re-brand later on if the public decides to walk away. Change your name, change your logo, look like a different company and screw everybody all over again. Just keep squeezing out that profit for the big boys.

My friend had American Home Shield, but they constantly denied stuff based on “silly” reasons. I remember him saying that denied a claim b/c technician used a certain device (?) to inspect sewer system, and they didn’t cover that tool b/c was too expensive. He then cancelled AHS b/c he said was a racket.

#1: "Much better I think to put the money in a bank emergency fund."

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

If a person can afford CarShield premium payments, then they can have the
same amount taken out of their paycheck and deposited in a emergency fund at the bank.

Don't commingle funds either. The emergency account is separate and untouchable.

Agree TV ads are for things that aren’t selling well.

Many have graduated form the Three Card Monte School.

One more thing. A couple of years ago I asked a mechanic at a Chevy dealership about that. Here’s what he said. A customer came in with a transmission that had to be rebuilt. The mechanic said the dealership charges $120 an hour labor for that work.

CarShield reimbursed the customer at $17 an hour.

I feel sorry for people who get suckered into these schemes, as they are the least able to afford them.

Of course I also feel bad for all the people on the /askmechanics subredit who post obnoxious service bills and ask if they got ripped off.

I use to include a years free home warranty with my buyers. I had to stop because of the absolute horror stories that a number of clients would make me aware of. From sub standard replacement parts to “technicians” that weren’t schooled in basic a/c testing. Not one of these home warranties are worth spit

It’s time folks realized that TV ads BUY that station and channels silence. No reporter will tell you about the folks that ARE SCAMMED. Won’t do that story as long as the sponsor keeps the $$$ flowing.
The biggest offender is Big Pharma.

Go out and spend your $$$ on anything that is not bulk promoted.

Remember, all insurance companies make much of their money by not paying you.

I have written my congress critters numerous times to outlaw the advertising of presecription medicines, as well as advertising for legal firms. I guess they get contributions from both groups.

Dealer where I bought my new car has associates who called me yesterday and quoted repair insurance for next 5 years for $4300 plus $100 each time I need a repair. My car still has new car 3 year warranty and very low miles. I am figuring if I have 2 repairs within next 5 years, $4500 should cover small repairs such as fuel pump or water pump. If nothing happens, I am $4500+interest on CD ahead.

“ Much better I think to put the money in a bank emergency fund.”
Too bad banks do not pay any return on that money they hold for you.
Wells Fargo pays almost nothing, but if you deposit $20,000 in an account they pay a pittance. Ridiculous.

I have an account tied to my checking account that is paying 4+%. Money can be transferred instantaneously with no penalty.

You can buy CDs, also.

What is wrong with advertising?

The Fair Debt Collection Practices act calls a portion of our fellow citizens “least sophisticated consumers”.
This is our Cousin Eddie who doesn’t have the sense to pour piss out of his boots.
On-line gambling must be the worst. They actually have the chutspah to put in their ads, “ Gambling Problem? Call “
