When it comes to its economy, Russia is being kept alive by its oil sales, but without the oil, Russia's economy might as well be in collapse mode.
May be true, but with the current invasion of Ukraine by Putin, oil sales become even more crucial for Russia, because that's what's fueling their military, literally and economically. It wasn't a crucial issue for Russia in the '80s; now it is.

It wasn't a crucial issue for Russia in the '80s; now it is. It was Carter's inflation of oil prices that paid for the USSR's 600-ship navy and it was Reagan's deregulation of oil that brought those prices down and killed the Soviet Union.
