CBS host pours cold water on liberal outrage to Colbert cancellation, says late-night industry is 'broken'

"CBS Mornings" co-host Tony Dokoupil is pushing back at the liberal outrage towards his network's cancellation of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."

"The business is broken," Dokoupil said of the late-night industry on Tuesday. "And what no one seems to acknowledge is that the politics also changed. The business changed and so did the politics, and it got way more one-sided than anything Johnny Carson was ever doing. I think we should reflect on those changes as well. It's been a big shift culturally in that regard also."

Dokoupil and his morning colleagues reacted to the scathing monologue from "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart, who didn't buy CBS' explanation that its decision to cancel Stephen Colbert's late-night show was purely a financial one.

The liberal network morning shows are probably next on the Colbert highway.

Paraphrasing Simon & Garfunkle about the writing on the subway walls.

The networks could make more money running old reruns of "The Munsters".

Too late for that. MeTV has that game pretty well in hand.

Time for Jon "Stewart" Leibowitz to hit the road too.

They decided to get political and being liberal, it cost them millions, maybe billions in the long run. The only political late night talk show with any kind of ratings is Gutfeld. That’s because he’s actually funny.

Their viewership is cratering anyway, and has been for years. The internet, demographics, and streaming services are the big culprit. Their ideological woke nonsense is another.

“Trump” is giving management a handy excuse and cover to confront their woke employees and constituents, and to starting radically changing their costs structure and content output.

Whining as comedy is getting old. CBS needs to stop it before their whole network tanks.

"it got way more one-sided than anything Johnny Carson was ever doing"

Even more recently, Jay Leno, Craig Ferguson, Conan O'Brien poked fun at both sides and didn't use their monologues to attack one side, as if they are on an MSNBC show.

‘ Time for Jon “Stewart” Leibowitz to hit the road too.’

Why does Leibovitz need to be added to that post?

They would probably have been able to hold on to their audience a little bit longer if they followed the Carson/Leno formula.

But they weren't interested in making a profit by the time Colbert took over.

I don't think CBS will get away with hiring let's say Vince Vaughn to host the Late Show. So they're better off canceling it.

See BS delayed paying Trump the $16 million in fines but can afford losing $40 million every year because of this dipstick. They need a new financial advisor.
