Common sweetener found to significantly and immediately boost heart attack and stroke risk

Sugar-free treats have taken over the shelves. You’ve probably seen erythritol listed on sodas, protein bars, and even toothpaste. It’s everywhere. Almost zero calories, no sugar spikes, and perfect for keto diets. Sounds like a win, but maybe not.

A new study from the University of Colorado Boulder has cracked open a side of erythritol that few expected. It’s not about weight gain or tooth decay. It’s about what this sweetener does to your brain’s blood vessels that may elevate the risk of a stroke.

The problem is that most other advertised natural sweeteners are often cut with erythritol, without immediately mentioning this fact on the label. How much is erythritol is not mentioned, but it is usually the first ingregient listed.

The human body isn’t designed for ingesting non-food chemicals.

Info started coming out a couple years ago about possible blood clots from erythritol and I chose to stop using it.

I’ll say it again - sugar is bad, artificial sweeteners are even worse.

Yours:
“...sugar is bad, artificial sweeteners are even worse.”

Mine:

Yes I agree. My Father used to prohibit soda pop (and a number of other nutritionally-challenged or worthless junk foods and heavily-processed foods).

He would allow me ONE bottle (not can) of soda pop per week. No more. And it had to use real sugar NOT artificial chemical or processed corn fructose sweetener.

the refigerator was filled up with healthy and just plain natural foods, fresh vegies and fresh fruits and nuts and more nuts and natural (not sugarred up) yoghurt and much of it was tasty stuff too (and thankfully Kale had not yet been invented, ha!)

Actually, the lower on the commercial food chain you eat, the less expensive it is.

Stevia, which is natural, usually has thas erythritol in it. It’s hard to find pure stevia.

“sugar is bad, artificial sweeteners are even worse”

Odd. I’ve drunk Diet Coke for 5 decades with no discernable ill effects. Had I consumed the same quantity of sugared coke, I’d be diabetic and obese!

Yup. I remember an article in Omni magazine back in the 1970’s that would have very nice pictures of various fruits and vegitables. Under each one was the natural “list of ingredients”. It looked like a dang twinkie label. 😁

I’m going to have to read up on this. I had a “mini-stroke” about four years ago. VERY minor. But I also had open heart surgery two years ago.

And my wife and I are on a delivery schedule at amazon every six months for five 40oz containters of Monk Fruit, which is what we sweeten everything with.

The first ingredient is erythritol.

We just got our latest shipment a week ago.

I need to read up and find out how serious this really is.
