With the federal EV incentive set to expire at the end of September, Ford is urging its dealers to prepare for a rush of buyers.
Ford warns dealers of upcoming EV rush Like most automakers, Ford is preparing for a shakeup under the Trump Administration. After the “One Big Beautiful Bill” was signed into law on July 4, the $7,500 and $4,000 tax credit for new and used EVs will no longer be available after September 30.
In a memo sent to dealers this week, Ford warned, “demand is expected to increase as the deadline approaches for eligible vehicles.”
The letter (via CarsDirect) confirmed that the EV tax credit “will no longer be available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025.”
Ford blamed Trump’s new bill for the expected rush of EV buyers ahead of the incentive deadline. Although the Mustang Mach-E doesn’t qualify for the credit, since it’s built in Mexico, Ford is passing it on through a leasing loophole. While it’s still available, the F-150 Lightning does qualify for the credit when purchased or leased.
The ev’s of 100 years ago had swappable batteries. A “juice” fill-up was a minute or two to yank the spent battery for a recharged battery.
National Grid customers in Upstate New York are facing potential rate increases for both gas and electricity, with a proposed 20% increase over three years. This increase is part of a joint proposal reached with the Department of Public Service Staff, IBEW Local 97, and other stakeholders.
Not so good?
Tesla sold over 350,000 cars in 2024
If I were going to blow that kind of money, a Cybertruck or Tesla sedan would be way higher up on the list than a Mach-e or a Lightning. I rented a Mach-e and the damned high power charger at the FORD DEALER wouldn’t even talk to it. Great to have that happen when there’s a hurricane coming and you have to evacuate which is exactly what was going on (Tampa/Milton).
Same for the hag at GM.
The Nucleon was styled on the assumption that the bulkiness and weight of nuclear reactors and shielding would some day be reduced. "It seems reasonable to suppose that engineers eventually will discover a way to make this weight reduction possible." — George W. Walker, Vice President for Styling at Ford
Compared to two hours on a recharge EV:)
I think it was Ford that fired their ICE engineers at the start of their EV fiasco. At the time I thought that was a really bad idea but when you look at the fragile throw away engines they created it may have been a blessing.
I remember that. Myopic and pathetic.
Looks like that was developed at a time when drinking a couple double vodkas at lunch was common.
Exactly;-)
Ford has a YUGE new battery plant. It either just opened or is about to. Glendale, KY. Multi-$billion investment. It is massive, I’ve watched it being built when passing by on I-65 occasionally for the past couple years.
I was thinking the same thing. I have seen people turn used EVs into home powerplants.
You can get a 2018 Chevy Bolt with 60 kwH for $9K. If you got a $4K subsidy, you are talking about $5k for $20K worth of batteries.
BRACE YOURSELVES FOR THE ANTIFA STAMPEDE!
There are three kinds of rats: Rats, Damned Rats and DemocRats.
4-way: ethanol. Henry Ford favored ethanol as a fuel source, seeing it as a way to empower farmers and promote energy independence.
They're useless as vehicles, but they'd make a dandy portable battery bank for home-based solar cell or wind powered systems.
Just hook them up to inverters and run your whole house off -grid.
Dealers should stock up with lots of EVs to ready for the anticipated stampede (any minute now!) /s
or 1 customer instead of zero and infinite (ratio) increase
Agreed. The price of all EV's will go down in 2026. EV subsidies artificially inflate prices just like subsidies in other industries do. Take away the govt "help" and prices go down.
The subsidy for used EVs was created in the Inflation Raising Act. Just like the prices of Tesla, GM, and Ford EV's were raised when the Inflation Raising Act extended the EV tax credit to EV's made by carmakers that had exceeded 200K cars (a limit set for the original EV tax credit). EV forums were livid that their hero EV makers raised prices on their cars (back when Tesla was a hero of the left).
I every now and then visit an EV forum focused on my EV (not a Tesla LOL) and tried to talk sense to them to no avail. Just like I try to tell them that the long road trip charging experience will get better when the govt gets out of setting up "free" chargers (or forcing others to do so, like the Volkswagen settlement regarding dieselgate) and all of the chargers are paid for by EV owners needing a charge. Last August I drove 1,740 miles in our EV in 32.5 hours of driving, charging, and restroom break time (not counting the time for a hotel stay nor a half hour I had to stop to do work). But I did that by avoiding the "free" chargers. I had good charging experiences because the chargers I used were set up to make me happy (because I was the one paying for it).
too expensive for the performance. I traded in my ford explorer for a tesla model y at the end of april. I’m enjoying it, especially the full self drive. i got rid of my 2018 explorer because it was starting to have electrical problems that all called for a 300 dollar diagnostic check before they would do anything else. even though the problem was obvious. a friend has had her tesla for 8 yrs, no problems.
