The rapidly fleeting shelf-life of the half-cocked doomist agitprop from lefty outlets like The New York Times desperate for an anti-Trump banger of a story is comedic gold in its own right.
Times economic policy reporter Tony Romm tried to be quick-on-the-draw by firing off an alarmist piece of propaganda June 23 that President Donald Trump’s strategic attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities could possibly cause oil prices to go to the moon.
Trump, in Romm’s view, had to “confront the potential economic blowback from his military strikes on Iran, which threatened to send oil and gas prices soaring at a moment when U.S. consumers are already facing significant financial strains.” That was just before oil prices would plummet well over four percent just a day later on June 24.
In fact, CNN reported that “Oil is falling so much it’s now cheaper than it was before the Iran-Israel conflict.” Oof! Talk about perfect timing, eh Romm? Derp.
What’s even more hilarious is that Romm’s piece concocting the specter of spiking oil prices was plastered onto the front page of the business section of The Times’s June 24 print edition … while prices were already tumbling!

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I bet Prozac sales are skyrocketing.
Trump wins a 3rd term, at this rate—with the Amendment changed!
You have a great tagline.
Skyrocketing oil prices is a 70-80’s mindset. Now we have American energy dominance. Rising oil prices are tamed thanks to drill, frack, crack, everywhere right now. More oil more gas more coal more nuke.
Power was handed to ME oil countries thanks to idiotic energy policies and price controls. Prices skyrocketed based on artificial scarcity. Then what little was left of domestic production we hammered with windfall profits tax.
We can easily get back to those days. Even now on FR you will hear calls for export controls on oil and gas. Or the whining about greedy gasoline refiners.
WSJ has a good explainer article on why Iran doesn’t hold the only cards on oil, the US does also. In terms of win/lose if Iran closes the Straight the losers are Iran biggly, China big, and the US teams even or may even benefit slightly.
China now is beholden to Trump for keeping their cheap oil flowing from Iran. Wonder what he got for that?
To no one's surprise, gas prices in oregon have risen steadily.
Now over four bucks a gallon.
oregon's super majority illiberal state representatives have
submitted legislation to greatly increase the fuel tax.
It's interesting in that I've had that since Trump's first term, yet, it is still how he works and everyone critical continues to be confounded.
He doesn't use anyone else’s playbook—only his own.
He is very much like you and me, yet, he has other qualities conventional thinking would not allow, like the importance of having a gold plated toilet or some such gaudy thing that has extremely limited appeal to most, but to him, somehow helps define him.
He is simply a unique bird that we are fortunate to have on our side.
To God: Thank you Father, for men such as Donald Trump.
