BAYTOWN, Texas – It’s the end of an era for ExxonMobil as the company is scheduled to demolish their old 10-story Main Office Building in Baytown on Saturday.
Known as the “White House,” the building has played a role in the company since it opened in 1971.
The building, located at 2800 Decker Drive, will be coming down this Saturday at 6:30 a.m. as the company implodes it.
While there will be no designated viewing areas available for the public to view the implosion, the company says they will be posting a video of the demolition online after it happens.
The company has provided a map of roadways that will be temporarily closed for the demolition.
The event is expected to end by 7:30 a.m.
We’ll also be auctioning off the opportunity for one lucky person to symbolically ‘push the button’ that will kick off the demolition.
Join us at Rotary’s Shrimp & Catfish Festival on Saturday, May 10, 11am-3pm, for a chance to be a part of history!
Did not hear about this until today.
Trying to find YT videos about the demolition. Didn't even know that E/M had an Instagram page!
ExxonMobil Building gets imploded!
That building didn't last as long as I did!
A ping out to the Texas Ping list, founded by Windflier.
A largish building gets imploded in Baytown. Wish I had heard of the implosion earlier, I might have gotten up to get stuck in traffic and watch it.
Another special Texas summer edition for your perusal.
As always, please FReepmail me if you want on or off the Texas Ping list.
Blessings, and stay cool!
It looked like a reasonably designed building. It didn’t look to be in a congested area. Why not just remodel?
One would have to be crazy to get anywhere close to that area; many people who inhaled particles of the twin towers have died as a result.
And why is the building being demolished? Say what you will about Europe’s many faults, but destroying buildings is not one of them, aside from those destroyed during wars.
Thanks for the ping!
Another building in the Houston area gone.
I remember how sad it was when they imploded the Macy’s, formerly Foley’s department store building in downtown Houston. That was truly the end of an era.
Just a guess. I live in flyover country and from what I can tell, nobody wants to rent in aging 50 to 60+ year old downtown office buildings.
Yet, the Coliseum in Rome is still standing and doing business.
BOOMB and its no longer standing
Our Macys is still intact at the local Mall. Sears is gone and has been replaced by Dicks Sporting goods. The Sears portion of the mail was bulldozed and replaced with Dick’s. At another end of the mall Costco replaced a regional retail outlet called Bergners. That wing of the mall was also bulldozed and rebuilt..
I believe that a "moob" is an different type of structure entirely.
Oops for some reason, FR won’t accept a live link to Wikipedia.

Beautiful landscape around them parts.
And why is the building being demolished?

The scratched messages in the restrooms.
