It’s a way to save face, get people off his back, declare victory, and stick it to the Chinese.

Countries that came to the table get to sit at the table and negotiate. It’s a cease fire. Not an end to the war. Just yet.

I honestly don't know what to make of this.

I interpret this as a hardball negotiation in which 75 countries are now offering some of the desired concessions.

Details to be worked out in the next 90 days. Hence a pause before dropping the hammers.

China has explicitly refused to concede anything. They get the hammer of immediate tariffs. "Pour encourager les autres".

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Trump got what he wanted from the most of the violators, including the EU. Now he pits China against the rest of the world, trade wise.

China can’t exist without the US market. They also do not have the domestic consumption to sustain themselves through a trade war. Vietnam, Taiwan and India, all long-time adversaries to China, will be happy to fill the product and manufacturing void if China decides to play chicken here.

This is what he wanted all along. He got the response needed and he’s now isolated China. At the same time, he’s started a slide in crude which hurts Russia and Iran and could break the former. With China influx and a rare metals agreement with Ukraine in reach, this could very well be the end of China as a world power and send them back to second class status.

He’ll now likely lean on the Fed if inflation shows any signs of falling. Then he needs to address the debt.

Doing this all now alleviates the Dems from taking this issue next year in the mid-terms.

Genius really.

It's about China. It was always about China (and would not want to be in Iran either).
