Most of what I know about Freemasonry comes from reading War and Peace where one of the characters is initiated into the organization.
I had some ancestors who were masons, the ordinary kind who built buildings.
I think it’s the Catholic church that is anti-Masonry.
Freemasonry accepts Catholics, Jews, anyone who attests to belief in a God/Supreme Being. They don’t bother with what one’s personal religion happens to be.
And that's my point. As a Catholic, Wahlberg is likely not a Mason, so I wonder how the organization "made him a star."
Freenasonry as an organization has a long history of being anti-Catholic but I think a lot of members are unaware of that.

Conspiracy theories worked both ways between the Free Masons & the Catholic Church.
A London Free Mason named John Coustos became a celebrity after getting apprehended by the Portuguese Inquisition.
He wrote a popular book about being tortured and not divulging Masonic secrets.
Later, when Inquisition records came out, he’d capitulated
immediately and wasn’t tortured at all.
They are anti-catholic, simply because they built the Vatican and when it came time to pay the bill, the Vatican refused to pay up. The Vatican then publicly lied and smeared them so no one would believe the story about the Vatican stiffing them. The devil worship BS is the result of and continuation of the smear campaigns against the Freemasons.
