Weed users are much more likely to suffer a heart attack, stroke or other life-threatening heart condition than people who don't indulge, a new study says.
Adults under 50 are more than six times as likely to suffer a heart attack if they use marijuana, compared to non-users, researchers reported Tuesday in the journal JACC Advances.
They also have a dramatically higher risk of stroke, heart failure and heart-related death, researchers said.
"Asking about cannabis use should be part of clinicians' workup to understand patients' overall cardiovascular risk, similar to asking about smoking cigarettes," lead researcher Dr. Ibrahim Kamel, a clinical instructor at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, said in a news release.
Weed is legal for recreational use in 24 states and for medical use in 39 states.
These results show that it is not inherently harmless, even as it is legalized across the U.S., researchers said.

“Eat a bag of Doritos, and call me in the morning.”
I don’t see in the aeticle if there’s a differentiation between smoking it or the edible version.
Retard dope smokers are addicts. They willingly embrace the risk for the high. Good liberTARDians.
MISLEADING. Not a "weed" user, but people these days are far more likely to consume cannabis via some other method than "smoking." Oils and edibles should not show the same health risks. And the jury is out on vaping. Could be better than smoking, but also could be worse, depending on additives used.
None of these people are a great loss for society,
Just let them do what they do.
Is it the weed that increases the risk, or the irresistible urge to eat junk food when stoned? Just wondering.
All the more reason not to smoke dope.
I scanned the article very quickly. For “ischemic stroke,” MJ smokers did better by a factor of 3 to 1.
However, remember to note what this means:
If 99.8% of one group are not affected by the factor at the end of the study, and 99.9% of the other aren’t, that’s a ration of 2 to 1. Which sounds a lot more dramatic.
Totally bogus.
USA tort lawyers are behind the sudden avalanche of negative and harmful claims that are swirling around marijuana use.
What changed?
USA tort lawyers now have actual corporations and investors they can sue for alleged medical damages.
An ER doc I knew told me about this guy who came in all freaked out because his penis had turned orange.
He asked the guy what he did last night and the guy said he smoked some weed, ate a bunch of cheetos and then pleasured himself.
The doctor advised him to go home and take a shower.

“I don’t see in the aeticle if there’s a differentiation between smoking it or the edible version.”
Which is how you know that the study had a predetermined outcome. It is not hard to guess that smoking dope is bad for you in many ways. It is also not hard to figure out that smoking it is going to have many different effects than eating it. The fact that the article does not state any difference between the two is proof that they had an agenda that was disconnected from finding the full truth. Therefore even though some of the premises may be true the study is not to be trusted scientifically.
“There are eight million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them.”
Good question!
Because munchies?
“Adults under 50 are more than six times as likely to suffer a heart attack if they use marijuana, compared to non-users, researchers reported Tuesday in the journal JACC Advances.” What about adults over 50? If they want to smoke it, let ‘em. Just don’t drive.
Ridiculous
PS -
I hope things will be changing now with RFK Jr going after them all, but these freaking studies are usually put up by someone with another product that’s losing money.
Now do margarine, do canola oil, do food dyes, do folic acid. But they never do.
Big Pharma in bed with Big Agra in bed with Big Med in bed with Big Pharma in bed with politicians. It disgusts me to no end.
