MSNBC hosts, analysts unleash on Schumer for supporting bill to avoid shut down

MSNBC's "The Weekend" unloaded on Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Saturday over his support for the bill that keeps the government open and avoids a shutdown — calling the move a stain and a "black mark" on his leadership.

MSNBC host Michael Steele asked his panel, "What are Republicans thinking right now about their ability to absolutely punk Schumer into making this move the way he did, when he knew that that's not where his party was?"

Schumer supported the bill on Friday despite his numerous disagreements with the House-passed stopgap spending bill, arguing that a government shutdown would be a "gift" to President Donald Trump.

"The reality here is there was no message, no strategy, and, at the end of the day, no leadership. And this is really a black mark, I think, on Chuck Schumer," former Democratic lawmaker Donna Edwards, who is now an MSNBC analyst, said. "You cannot signal on Wednesday that you want to fight, and then on Thursday, you cave. And so now Republicans know that all they have to do is play Democrats, and it will work."

"I'm pissed," MSNBC host Symone Sanders Townsend said, referring to the contents of the spending bill. "There's actually little that the Senate Minority Leader can say, and the 10 Democrats that voted with the Republicans can say, to appease somebody like me. I'm going to change my registration to Independent."

A government shutdown was averted on Friday just before the deadline. Senators voted 54-46 to pass the stopgap spending bill, which only needed 51 votes to be approved. Nearly all Republicans backed the measure. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., voted against the bill along with nearly all the Democrats, except Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Independent Sen. Angus King of Maine.

MSNBC host Michael Steele

How was this loser ever the RNC chairman? The GOP was just Democrat-lite.

An MSNBC host is leaving the Democrats to become an independent? Wow, Schumer really struck a nerve with some people didn’t he.

I wonder if Schumer is in trouble as Democrat leader; could they vote to oust him as leader? Not sure of the rules for that. I know the House has their rules to vacate the chair, but not sure if there’s anything similar to get rid of a minority party leader in the Senate.

Then again there’s chatter that Schumer could face a primary challenge in his next election.

Schumer no longer know what agents from the Intelligence Community are on his side or who he can trust.

Remember his: “they can get you six ways to Sunday” remark.

Is it just me, or does it feel good to see Chucky being the one flamed for voting against his party instead of the turtle?

Kinda sucks, doesn’t it, “six ways from Sunday” Schumer?

Shmuckie was in on the Russia hoax from the beginning.

I hope he understands that thanks to Trump, Bondi, Patel and Bongino, he is now the hunted.

Schumer is a savvy strategist

He knows that if the government shuts down at this point the Democrats will be blamed

A shut down will favor the plans of Trump and Musk more than Democrats.

If the Deep State actors are out of the office the DOGE workers can do their work unobserved.

Agree. Steele is so loathsome and slimy it is impossible to picture him leading any legitimate enterprise.

From his weak chin to his low forehead with beady eyes in between. And his panel contributions could have been from a 7th grader about to get held back a grade.

The establishment types like Schumer and Pelosi know the party is in bad shape, but many of the activist class and the large flock of Democrat voting sheeple don’t care. They want everyone to adhere to the far left kookism that’s bringing them all down.

Anyone know why Schumer voted for it? There’s gotta be a reason.

From what I gather, a complete shutdown means everyone stays home. DOGE could then have their way with whatever they want. Quite the pickle.

"What are Republicans thinking right now about their ability to absolutely punk Schumer into making this move the way he did, when he knew that that's not where his party was?"

I dislike Schumer intensely, but I have no illusions that the GOP somehow bullied that stubborn old mule into anything. He knew that Trump could use the shutdown to his advantage, and unlike those Dems who used to cry two years ago that a shutdown would hurt the country, Schumer apparently really meant it.

I’d be surprised if Schumer ran again. I think this is his last hurrah.

This sudden change was not part of a Schumer plan. He didn’t even do the usual dodge of making a “deal at the 12th hour”.

He got a call that suddenly changed his mind and forced immediate action.

"I'm pissed," MSNBC host Symone Sanders Townsend said, ... "I'm going to change my registration to Independent the Communist Party USA."

Symone should be honest with herself and just go all in.

PMSNBC putting foreigners first. The clowns wanted the government shut down so Americans could suffer and not get a passport to fly home to Italy to see their grandma who is on her deathbed.
