American Federation of Teachers honcho Randi Weingarten’s sudden outrage over Team Trump’s plan to abolish the federal Department of Education is simply about losing her own power and influence — not any risk to the kids.
America’s “competitors — and adversaries — are no doubt cheering President Donald Trump’s plan to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education,” Weingarten asserts in an MSNBC column, pretending the DOE “helps give all children in the United States access to the great public school education they deserve.”
Nonsense: Few kids in America have “access” to “great public school education”; we lag our peers badly in international testing.
“A gutted department would mean fewer teachers, more crowded classrooms and increased mental health and behavioral challenges for students,” she lies.
“We’d most likely see increased absenteeism and decreased graduation rates.”

It’s a pleasure to watch her power melt."
under this fake, high school graduates can no longer
read, let alone want to.
A LESBIAN with NO KIDS!! But she never was for the kids....only the teachers!
GRADUATED FROM A RURAL 4 YEAR HIGH SCHOOL-—30 +++ in some classes.
HAD EXCELLENT TEACHERS-—LONG BEFORE “UNIONS”.
“We’d most likely see increased absenteeism and decreased graduation rates.”
Well, if they don’t show up and do the work why should they?
I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised - Wiengarten shows the exact same single-minded, gangster-type attitudes as the industrial union bosses we saw in the 1960s and 1970s: “Screw you. It’s all about what we get, and you are gonna pay us!”
America came to accept that was the style of quasi-mafia leaders of the local pipe-fitters or electricians union in places like New Jersey or Philadelphia.
But this is 2025, and this is about “education,” children, culture and parents - all funded by taxpayers with government money
Her gangster-style promotion of Neo-marxism, for her own power and money that may trickle down to her members, is outrageous
Education is not “one size fits all”...
Each state is unique and education should be controlled by each state and not the federal government...
Exactly.
And to think some of our worst enemies educate their children better than we do our own children. Sad.
Simply put.... they’re in it for the money not the kids. SPIT.
Considering how literacy rates have dropped over the years, the DoE proved itself incapable of delivering and should have been shut down long ago.
Randi Weingarten is an embarrassmwnt to the Milky Way galaxy board of education.
In a weird way there was a silver lining to covid....remote learning gave parents a window into what was going on in the classroom, and a lot of them saw how jacked up it was......and Weingarten doing everything she could to keep schools closed for as long as possible actually allowed that window to stay open.
So in a round about way she did this to herself......which makes the DOE getting shut down even more satisfying.
She didn’t actually care about the teachers either. She cared only about the cause which was to destroy American education.
That we have 50 potential laboratories (States) to test methods of teaching children is an AMAZING advantage we should have. Instead, that execrable POS Carter squandered and destroyed that by creating the Federal Department of Education.
Exactly!!!!!!
Exactly!!!!!!
If an unfriendly foreign power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war. As it stands, we have allowed this to happen to ourselves. We have even squandered the gains in student achievement made in the wake of the Sputnik challenge. Moreover, we have dismantled essential support systems which helped make those gains possible. We have, in effect, been committing an act of unthinking, unilateral educational disarmament.
