The Polish prime minister has said the government is preparing to introduce “military training” for all adult males in the country and that the initiative should be ready “by the end of the year”.
Donald Tusk told parliament on Friday that if Russia took control of parts of Ukraine, then Poland would find itself in a “difficult geographical situation”.
He said: “We are preparing large-scale military training for every adult man in Poland. Our goal is to finalize the plan by year’s end to ensure a well-trained reserve force ready for potential threats.
“If Ukraine loses the war, or if it accepts the terms of peace, armistice, or capitulation in such a way that weakens its sovereignty and makes it easier for Putin to gain control over Ukraine, then without a doubt—and we will all agree on this—Poland will find itself in a much more difficult geopolitical situation.”
In an address dominated by security, Tusk also said that “Poland must pursue the most advanced capabilities, including nuclear and modern unconventional weapons.
“This is a serious race - a race for security, not for war.”
He also told the house that he had asked the Defense Ministry to initiate Poland's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention and possibly the Dublin Convention, which ban the use of anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions, respectively, explaining that “faced with a threat Poland will resort to any means necessary.”

Ukraine is irrelevant if the Russians absorb Belarus.
The grain crop there is not irrelevant.
I believe behind the scenes Trump is working with Poland, to put pressure on Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy has pissed off the Poles several times, and Poles are growing tired of all the Ukrainians who moved there, and they want to them to go back home.
Britain and France are irrelevant. It will be Poland that will prove to be our best partner in Europe when it comes to dealing with that region.
That’s why Poland wants cluster munitions, anti personnel mines and their own nukes.
They definitely need them.
Getting ready for WW3 and thermonuclear war. Nice!
Neocons and globalists salivating at the vision of total destruction of everything.
Lord, save us from this madness!
marcusmaximus,
Who pays you to troll? How many accounts are you running ,asking for those of us that have been here for years. When was the last time you helped Jim. Monthly I hope!
FYI
More elites beating war drums.
Yup, I’ve been saying this for a couple of years - Poland needs to be like a larger Switzerland.
Not conscription like you have in Petersburg, but a militia
Take an extra pair of socks when they ship you to the front.
No, it’s not beating war drums.
As a person living in Poland since 2010 (and with dual citizenship since 2016), I fully support this move - I am in the age-group and I should be prepared in the worse case event .
Also, if we are prepared and have a 20 million “potential force” , then there is less of a chance that Putin would want to attack - just as hitler hesitated before attacking Switzerland
“It will be Poland that will prove to be our best partner in Europe when it comes to dealing with that region.”
Yes. But note, Nukes have entered here too. That is not a sign of confidence with the US.
Also “and modern unconventional weapons” - one has to wonder.
Anyway, day after day, as I predicted, nukes are popping up.
Maybe Tusk sound like an elite in Poland, where elite elites are thin on the ground, but he isn’t really. And in this he is in the same thought zone as Duda who absolutely isn’t.
This posturing is how the first World War started. Europe seems determined to have a war and keeping a war.
At this rate, they are making the Russians the good guys!
It’s Poland that Zelenskyy will have to listen to. Zelenskyy has pissed off the Poles with some of his statements.
