Dallas police confirmed there was no active shooter after an incident in Downtown Dallas near the Omni Hotel and Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Saturday afternoon.
Police say the initial call that came in at 1 p.m. was regarding an active shooter, but that the investigation determined a fight between two people led to multiple poles being knocked down which caused a loud noise.
Dallas police tell NBC 5's Meredith Yeomans the fight was in the hallway between the Omni hotel and the convention center.
That loud noise contributed to panic inside the building and stampede as people rushed outside, according to police.

They CLOSED the entire Convention Center after the scare. His company will loose a few thousand dollars as it canceled his meeting. The convention center had many businesses using it but the main attraction was a huge cheer leading assembly which is where the supposed fight occurred. He said it was MASS HYSTERIA with THOUSANDS of people screaming, running, busting their heads and faces falling and even getting trampled.
Police, swat, dogs everything was called. And it all started from 2 hot head cheer parents fighting.
This all per phone conversation a few minutes ago.
Was it them again, Yogi?
I’m not jumping to any conclusions on this. The sport has a history of violence in Texas.
Got to remember what the main group was. Tween to teen girls, 1000s of them.

That sounds absolutely horrifying. And all Cheerleaders— with some Cheerleader Moms thrown in no doubt-— to boot. Good Lord, the hysteria that could be generated...
It’s not a cheerocracy, it’s a cheertatorship.
Crazy!
I bought a bag of those at 7/11 yesterday.
For some reason I thought of the dance scene at the end of Blazing Saddles.
Looks like a bunch of fat @ dads going after it ....

Looks like everything was settled before the cops got there to over react.
If more people carried there would be less fright or fear.
They should sit in jail for a year.
My daughter and I were talking about the $$$ lost. 58,000 people or likely more. Think of the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS wasted:
Travel costs
Lodging
Food
Medical costs
Damages to building
Etc.
>>...fat @ dads<<
.
Yes, white “fat @ dads,” and not the usual suspects.
I feel for all who were out for their convention/show money.
In Texas, Cheering is a obsession, with many parents. And, a cash cow operation, for these squad studios.
My daughter was a member of the Coppell HS Lariettes Drill Team. Hard to believe it was 20 years ago. Drill team & cheerleading is very serious business in North Texas.
She was competing against girls that had been doing dance/cheer/drill lessons since they were 2 or 3 years old.
Oh yeah, I contributed thousands to the cause: lessons, trips, competitions, uniforms, etc. It's all about the spectacle of Friday Night Lights during the fall. I also had two sons who were in Band for 4 years, their band numbered over 350 musicians.
One enduring memory from my youngest son's senior year. He played football and was in the band as well. During a regional competition, the football coach loaded up a bus with 40+ football players to cheer on their teammate.
Yes....we’ve been there, done that, as well! (Both cheering and band.)
That was really cool of your son’s football coach to take the team to the regional competition! Not many would take the time or have the consideration.
Them possibly or maybe the transgender crowd?
