Donald Trump discussed the war in Ukraine on Wednesday in phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the new U.S. president's first big step towards diplomacy over a war he has promised to end.

In a post on his social media platform, Trump said he and Putin had "agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelenskiy, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, something which I will be doing right now."

Zelenskiy's office said Trump and Zelenskiy had spoken by phone for about an hour.

The Kremlin said Putin and Trump had agreed to meet, and Putin had invited Trump to visit Moscow.

Elon Musk called for a complete reorganization of NATO

This is how he responded to the words of Senator Mike Lee that the alliance "has outlived its usefulness" and the era of the "cold war is long over".

Even if NATO is completely dissolved, and Putin, in response to this,… pic.twitter.com/dRCr8ue2UE— Victor vickop55 commentary (@vick55top) February 12, 2025

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has called for a fundamental restructuring of NATO.

His remarks, posted on social media, come as geopolitical tensions escalate worldwide and scrutiny over U.S. military spending intensifies.

Musk’s statement, “NATO needs an overhaul,” was made in response to U.S. Senator Mike Lee’s comment that “The Cold War is over. NATO’s anachronistic.”

Musk has been a vocal critic of the U.S. military-industrial complex, previously questioning the cost and efficiency of major defense programs, including the F-35 fighter jet and the U.S. Navy’s shipbuilding strategy. He has argued that existing procurement and development processes have led to bloated budgets and outdated weapons systems, leaving the U.S. and its allies vulnerable to emerging threats.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

I just spoke to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine. The conversation went very well. He, like President Putin, wants to make PEACE. We discussed a variety of topics having to do with the War, but mostly, the meeting that is being set up on Friday in Munich, where Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead the Delegation. I am hopeful that the results of that meeting will be positive. It is time to stop this ridiculous War, where there has been massive, and totally unnecessary, DEATH and DESTRUCTION. God bless the people of Russia and Ukraine!

Like many government and international institutions, Barak Obama and his backers used the power of the US to fundamentally change and corrupt NATO.

The NATO of the 2020s is not the NATO of the Cold War or even of the GW Bush 2005 era.

That said, NATO is a vital alliance to prevent destructive wars. Communist Russia might not exist anymore but Communist China sure does.

Big deal. I’m sure Biden talked directly with both of them frequently during his highly-successful term... </s>

Since a lot of the rare earth metals are in the Russian occupied areas, how does Trump expect to get a good deal if Russia keeps that territory? Getting those metals was supposed to go a long way to reimburse our funds provided to Ukraine.

Perhaps, President Trump’s deal does not assume Putin is to keep that Ukraine territory?

The Chicoms, of all people, offerd a similar deal back in 2022. A lot of this could have been avoided.

Putin signed agreements to respect the borders of Ukraine and help defend them when Ukraine agreed to turn over all nukes inside Ukraine borders back to Russia. Since Russia/Putin have now violated their signed word, it would be reasonable for Ukraine to demand these nukes be returned or else be permitted to develop their own nukes.

...and what army?

With adequate support from Europe and perhaps even the US, the same army that has taken a chunk of Kursk and is continuing to hold it.

Someone put LSD in the Kiev water supply. That’s the only explanation for this. Just let it go already. It’s been THREE YEARS. No one is going to fight Russia to save you.
