We had 3 female dogs, I couldn’t pet any of them in the presence of the others as it turned into vicious dog fights. They only did it with me, not my wife or daughter.
If I sit next to my wife on the couch, our dog Cody IMMEDIATELY jumps up and gets between us. My wife really dotes on him (I mean a LOT).
Sounds like an alpha female limiting her competition for the alpha male. There is something to all of that.
We have 2 mini dachshunds, 1 year apart. The minute I carried the younger one, the male, into the house, he completely became the dominant dog -— 8 weeks old, and dragging the one year old female around by her ear. Every time we show any attention to the older one, the male has to try to get between us. If I put them outside, the little one races to get to the door first, fake mouthing at the female to keep her from getting out the door before him. Pretty much same behavior in most situations. I call him a little bully, but he is very sweet and affectionate; he just HAS to be first!
The little dachshund we used to have would try to bite me if I approached my husband to give him a kiss, if he was sitting in his lap. My husband was HIS, and he wasn’t going to share him with me!
Our cat would sit in the hallway and wail, when I would bathe our young granddaughter in the tub. Sometimes he would go sit in the tub and yowl for me. I am sure he was jealous of the attention I was paying to the granddaughter.
