Nearly 60 million Americans are under weather threat alerts as a monstrous winter storm gears up to slam parts of the country with heavy snow and debilitating ice.
Weather experts forecast that impending winter storm Blair will affect sweep across the Great Plains and the Northeast this weekend into early next week, affecting cities such as Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Kansas City, Omaha, St. Louis and Indianapolis.
Forecasters predict that the Rocky Mountain region as well as the Central and Northern Plains areas will be hit by heavy snow, strong winds and freezing rain.
'The storm is shaping up to be the first widespread cross-country winter storm of the season for the central and eastern United States and will negatively affect travel during the final days of the holiday break,' AccuWeather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.
Residents in Wichita, Kansas City and Omaha can expect blizzard-like conditions due to heavy snow and strong winds.
'A wintry mix could start as early as this afternoon and transition to snow Sunday afternoon,' the National Weather Service field office in Kansas City said on X.
'Wind gusts around 35-40 mph on Sunday could yield possible blizzard conditions.'
Over time, the hefty winter storm is expected to shift toward the Missouri region, whose residents should expect similar, hazardous conditions.

WOW a whole 2 feet of snow. Big stinking deal.
AND TOILET PAPER!!!
Gosh, we used to call it “winter”
Oh yea I forgot about toilet paper. I guess blizzards gives people the shits or something.
The big problem is the icing they are forecasting. And the high winds, which will result in power outages.
And if an area isn’t equipped to deal with that much snow, yeah, it is a big deal.
If you don’t care, why come on the thread at all just to sneer at everyone who has to deal with this?
One of my daughters is in central Kansas. So far, they’re calling for 10”-16”.
;)
I have lived in Buffalo for 64 years. Not ONCE have they ever named a storm. But if they did, they would name it Bruno, or Rocco or Nick. “Blair” would be a dusting on the sidewalks.
Yea they are saying there will be an ice storm. Power might go out.
So while going out for milk, bread and toilet paper make sure you have enough propane for you propane camping heater.
Don’t forget a dozen eggs and a few rolls of TP!
Milk.
Bread.
Eggs.
TP.
My BFF up in the DC area went out to get some supplies this morning and said it was CRAZY in the stores. She gassed up the car too, but said the gas station wasn’t too crowded.
It starting to snow just north of KC now. I doubt the folks in the west/Midwest get their panties in a wad over winter. We never did last year. Besides you can always lick the glue off of the Formica on the counter tops. 😁
i LIVE IN dELAWARE..WHERE, INCIDENTLY, THEY ARE CALLING FOR MANY INCHES OF SNOW AND ICE. We don’t have this too much but when we do it’s paind.
And so it shall be. I have a Jeep, 4 weheel drive, went shopping today, got plenty of Pepsis, some vodka and food. Stuff to smoke that might bring me a high.
Daughter is here but for some reason, this storm kind of scares me.
But I will survive...insert wink here.
Eggs! Are you rich?
I don’t get it. In recent years, they have been naming winter storms, just as we name hurricanes.
Don’t forget the face mask. 😁😁😁
I call ours. Beotch.
* “monstrous winter storm”
* “heavy snow, strong winds and freezing rain”
* “blizzard-like conditions due to heavy snow and strong winds”
* “wintry mix”
* “wind gusts”
* “hefty winter storm”
Who hired this crappy writer??? Where’s “Polar Vortex” and “Bomb Cyclone”? Where’s the hyperbole and bombast. This just reads like an ordinary weather article.
I cannot express enough how disappointed I am.
If they named storms in Buffalo, you would have a lot of Xaviers, Zachary’s and Zoe’s....You would have a hard time in the Q’s.
