Since the old man pardoned the kid, the kid has given up his 5th amendment rights. He is effectively immune to prosecution for what he was pardoned for. So therefore, he can be called to testify by any investigation committee/prosecutor and either spills the beans against his ol man or whoever they are after or gets prosecuted for not testifying truthfully.
