It used to be that only the UK spent even 2% (of the NATO countries). And the UK has very little military capability.

No. It really needs to be 5% so that Europe can protect itself. That number in no way benefits the United States, it benefits Europe mostly, as well as the nations of Europe. Trump is trying to make sure that NATO is real, and it’s about time somebody did.

NATO countries need smaller militaries. They don’t need anything beyond search and rescue, border security and anti-terrorism forces. They should be prohibited from having tanks, combat aircraft, artillery, warships and missiles.
