“up to several tens of centimeters” of settlement


Since this is happening in the U.S. wouldn’t ‘several inches’ be informative? And if one insists on using the oh-so-superior metric system, why not say ‘several decimeters’ of settlement?

To be dramatic, they could express the settlement in millimeters.

Centimeters, the more common term, is used.

These are the same idiots who unaccountably change the names of places without any warning. Like suddenly a city that has been called Bombay for a century of more is suddenly “Mumbai.” Or Peking becomes Beijing.
