Here’s my break in story from the 1990s. 3 yutes got into the house. (from witnesses who saw them). No one was home except my Beagle. They took jewelry and nothing else. Not sure but the dog may have startled them because one of them dropped an address book and that was found. Cop came over to take down the report. Took the address book and from it caught one of the yutes. Didn’t give up his partners in crime. Judge made him write an apology letter to us. Insurance covered about half the value of the jewelry although the sentimental value could never be replaced. Upshot was we moved from that house which was an additional loss a few years later. I sometimes have feelings of revenge well up but put them down. Decades later I looked up the perp now an adult on facebook. He has some children but I still think the guy leads a life of crime from a t shirt or two he wears in photos. Anyways being a victim sucks but this was survivable and I rarely think about it.

Dingbat probably figured that ADT would save him. Dummy - they now have cell phone jammers (thanks to Biden’s Mass Immigration), people can no longer leave their homes unattended.

"When I was in the Marines, 1970’s, there was a rash of car burglaries on base..."

When I was at Ft. Riley we had an extended exercise that kept us in the field for a couple weeks. When we got back in, virtually every unmarried lieutenant in the battalion returned to their off post apartments to find they'd been broken into.

CID worked with local law enforcement. It turned out a personnel clerk who had access to all the junior officer records figured out who was single and lived alone and where they lived, and gave the info to some compatriots in another unit that was not in the field at the time.

“Insurance covered about half the value of the jewelry”

Yep, after we were burglarized is when I discovered jewelry has to be on a rider policy to your homeowners insurance.

Probably be cheaper to buy a quality safe.

A friend of mine had a sweet Dodge Challenger of that era, muscle car to the max, huge Mickey Thompson’s and custom wheels.

He went out one morning to go to our duty station and it was sitting up on cinder blocks, In the parking lot!.

What was really a pisser was that our barracks was across the street from the MP HQ!.............
