TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The longtime music director at a northern Michigan church said he was fired just a few months before retirement after officials learned that he was in a same-sex marriage, a dismissal that has angered members and led to sidewalk protests by the choir.
“He’s extremely talented, he’s perfect on the piano, he has perfect pitch and because of him, I look forward to going to church every week,” said Bob Holden, a chorister at St. Francis Church in Traverse City.
“I’m divorced. Do I get thrown out next?” Holden told the Traverse City Record-Eagle.

I actually read that book some years back. That was an OPC church. The PCA in northern California can be hit or miss, but it’s not as bad as it was a few years back. The most homosexual affirming PCA pastor (he was married to a woman) left the denomination with his church, and things have been quieter since then. The most recent battle over homosexuality in the PCA was actually centered in St. Louis. That pastor and church have finally departed, but he had way too many sympathizers in the Presbytery and the Seminary there.
That all being said, I’d recommend any Presbyterian stuck in San Francisco to opt for the OPC church there.

I get your point but Catholics don’t go to Mass for the “preaching”, they go for the Sacraments.
I don’t think the current pastor’s family has suffered that level of harassment and violence.

When you are in a position of leadership in a church you need to live your life in accordance with the teachings of the church.
From the pastor to the assistant teacher in the nursery. All of them should be faithful members of the church.
It is not a "company" or a "club". The rules are different.

They hated the unrepentant sin and got rid of it. This is a Church with standards, not a place of business that is liable to accommodate anyone at will.
I dont think there is one heterosexual male church or civic organist in the western world.
