Taylor Swift has been at the top of the pop music charts for over 15 years. That's an eternity in show business.
It's no accident. Swift's rise to superstardom was as carefully planned as a military campaign. Her studio recordings, her songwriting, her tours, her public appearances, and her advocacy have all been carefully structured to give her maximum exposure with minimum risk.
Until she endorsed Kamala Harris for president.
Swift transcended pop music to become an American icon. Her Harris endorsement has now squandered that precious admiration and goodwill and, for the first time in her hugely successful career, she has stumbled.
It's not a big stumble, to be sure. But the Harris endorsement has opened the door to criticism and in show business, where everyone is waiting to pounce on any error you make and tear you down, it was a strategic mistake.
"Who's afraid of little old me? Republicans," Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, the Democratic pollster who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies, said of Swift. "Her personal ratings have dropped from +2 to -35 among Republicans."
"A good lesson that it's better to be a tortured poet than a tortured figure in the political arena," Horwitt continued.

She’s going to be Dixie Chicked.
I’m sure she’s “crying all the way to the bank,” as Liberace once said.
To paraphrase Michael Jordan, Republicans buy shoes too.
I hope so. If that happens, she’ll have no one to blame but herself.
Exactly.
This young woman’s fans have all the attention span and political interest of a gnat.
They’ll keep listening to her warble songs about bad choices in life.
It wasn’t a “career move”.
It was part of the deal.
Let’s it’s enough to start swaying all those Swifties to vote for Trump instead of his rival.
That’s because they’re braindead and ignorant.
Hopefully all of them.

She sold generic fluff to the masses, fun, frivolous, playtime stuff, and now she has taken a stand against a lot of them, and for a lot of them, and on a lot of issues of the two political parties, grown up stuff, mean stuff, stuff that people over 18 have to make choices about and that many have firm and important feelings about, now her fans are separated from each other and a lot of them are separated from her.
She just introduced some serious rust into her powerful image machine.
She’ll write a song about Trump or Harris. Win an award.
Obviously not.
The Dixie Chicks rebranded as The Chicks and have pretty much recovered.
Taylor Swift's audience won't care one way or the other. Only non-Swifties will boycott what they've already been boycotting, so I don't see this as any hit to her career whatsoever, especially with all of the Libs in showbusiness.
Taylor, under Kamala’s tax plan, please pay 30 million dollars each year.
