Why the point of origination? Probably to save on hotel bills as people who lived there could just go home.

Yes, sometimes you might find out what you didn't want to know afterwards. Watch Taiwan, closely, They are at their most vulnerable now just before the elections.

“American Airlines needs a lesson in effective communication,” Jimin Lee

Lee isn't the deepest thinker.

Perhaps there’s something going on at the other end that necessitated the u-turn.

Not so fast Quiksdraw,
AmericanAir will still have to pay big bucks,
I can’t see how they save considering the fuel rather than SEA

Perhaps they did make an announcement and, in typical fashion, passengers ignored it or slept through it.

Maybe it was just Jimin that missed it.

I was on a plane that was hit by lightning. Told a co-worker that I was disappointed the captain didn’t get on the horn and say something. Co-worker made a point that a lighting strike may have set off all kinds of alarms and you wouldn’t want to hear that blaring in the background.

Five hours from Dallas on the way to Seoul puts them over the Pacific, closer to SFO or LAX then to DFW.

Yup, they are hiding something

KAL 007

United States Congressman Larry McDonald from Georgia, who at the time was also the second president of the conservative John Birch Society, was on the flight. Senator Jesse Helms of North Carolina, Senator Steve Symms of Idaho, and Representative Carroll Hubbard of Kentucky (who cancelled his reservations for the trip at the last moment) were aboard sister flight KAL 015, which flew 15 minutes behind KAL 007; they were headed, along with McDonald on KAL 007, to Seoul, South Korea, in order to attend the ceremonies for the thirtieth anniversary of the U.S.–South Korea Mutual Defense Treaty.[19] The Soviets contended former U.S. president Richard Nixon was to have been seated next to Larry McDonald on KAL 007 but that the CIA warned him not to go, according to the New York Post and Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union (TASS); this was denied by Nixon.[20]

I’m thinking of the disabled cruise ship that wouldn’t dock. When you sign up for one you give pall your rights.
