MIAMI -- Shohei Ohtani became the first player in baseball history to reach the 50/50 club on Thursday, and he did so in dominant fashion -- with two home runs and two stolen bases in a five-hit game that could clinch a postseason spot for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ohtani opened the game with a line-drive double off the wall in right-center field against Miami Marlins starter Edward Cabrera, then picked up his 50th steal of the season by swiping third base. A second-inning single was followed by stolen base No. 51. Ohtani then added a two-run double in the third -- before getting thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple -- and followed with a 438-foot home run into LoanDepot Park's second deck in the sixth for his 49th home run.
Ohtani came to bat again with runners on second and third and two outs in the seventh inning, prompting many to wonder whether the Marlins would pitch to him. They did -- and Ohtani delivered, taking a 1-2 curveball from Mike Baumann and lofting it over the fence in left-center field for his 50th home run of the season.

Go Tigers!
Yes.
This feat is mui impressive.
Ricky Henderson with power.
He is a freak of nature in baseball. He is also going to be a starting pitcher. A modern day babe Ruth.
You have to be able to run fast to steal 50 bases in the Big Leagues.
Go Braves.......
Except Babe Ruth never had this kind of speed.
Seems like a stupid question, but is Ohtani really fast or just smart with good timing?

51 SB only been caught only 4 times
Likely both
Looks like his 3rd MVP (also had a 2nd place finish)
This is his first full season without pitching
He always had nagging injuries From pitching that put him on the DL or cut his previous seasons short
He’s a good pitcher but a great hitter/runner
He’s scheduled to start pitching again next season
I would just use him as a hitter and perhaps a relief pitcher here and there
Not a full time starter
I wonder what kind of fancy legal work insulated him from the interpreter’s gambling scandal, or he could have been the modern Shoeless Joe Jackson
That’s very true.
Ricky Henderson with power.

Rickey had decent power for his freak speed
Even in the Top 10 in homers a couple of season I think
Ohtani is fast, but his baserunning techniques is beyond belief.
BTW he hit his 51st homer in the ninth inning. Three homers, 6 for 6, and 10 RBIs might go down as the greatest single day hitting feat. I’ll have to check Shawn Green’s game back in 2002.
Wow
I glanced at the box score and saw he was 5-5 but thought the game was over
he’s at the 73 % in speed , so 1/4 are faster, of course you also have to get on base a lot to stealhttps://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/shohei-ohtani-660271?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
Stat line for today
6 for 6
3 home runs
2 doubles
10 RBI’s
4 runs scored
2 stolen bases
Imagine if he pitched this year.
We pulled even with the Twins, but they have the tie-breaker.
There are reports that Ohtani might be used to pitch and DH during the playoffs. I’m kind of skeptical of this but considering the Dodgers have one starting pitcher capable of pitching at least six innings right now it’s not impossible.
last question; is he human?
