Not the best photo I've ever seen... If you're into magic mushrooms, it should be appealing.

1st PLACE

Beauty in the woods by Jaz72

What an absolutely gorgeous image! We like the creativity in this image – it’s an interesting take on the brief, managing to blend landscape and macro photography into an unusual perspective. The colors are seasonal, but there is more to the shot than autumnal hues. A well-thought-out and executed shot!

Lots more of the winning pictures at the linky. Please post some of your favs!

Also on their site:

Letter claiming photographers are being pushed out of Harris campaigned signed by six major news organizations

The White House News Photographers Association (WHNPA) has written a letter stating that the vice president’s campaign hasn’t created the space for the same number of photographer’s who traveled with President Biden.

In an “unprecedented reduction in access” according to the letter, they claim that Harris has reduced the number of journalists from 13, to nine.

The letter also claims that the reduction in their numbers affected the news reporters, whose ranks in the White House press travel pool fell from four to one.

The letter was sent on August 29, and while it acknowledges that the campaign said it needed the seats for increased security in the wake of the attempted assassination attempt on Donald Trump. However, it mentions broader exasperation about the lack of media access to Harris, who has had few unscripted moments with the media since becoming the democratic nominee.

So Harris gets increased security (from unauthorized photographers!) but Trump gets DEI hires?

View from the perspective of a Dung Beetle?

A Dung Beetle does not know the world around; just rolls up those balls of dung.

That picture would not have made my top 10. When I think about autumn, I do not think about fungus.

Artificially framing the scene with leaves from the perspective of a bug or fungus.

“Winning”???

I wonder how bad the other submissions were...

I like the creativity as well. It’s sort of an “Ant’s eye view” of the world….

Looks staged to me.

Amanita mushroom I think, but I’m not a fungus specialist.

Artificially framing the scene with leaves from the perspective of a bug or fungus.

“Winning”???

All the big-name 35mm SRL cameras like Canon, Olympus and Nikon used to be packaged with color-printed, photo print quality sample collections - presumably to give the new camera owner some guidance and inspiration (and to help sell different lenses and other accessories). This photo would not have been included in those glossy booklets.

Fly agaric (amanita muscaria), one of the most recognizable and infamous mushrooms. It has toxic / psychoactive effects.

Indeed. Interesting that it was the mushroom chosen for that remakable (almost psychadelic) photo.
