The owner of a luxury $1.8 million Hamptons vacation rental where two Maryland sisters died in a fire sparked by a shoddy electrical job has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.
Peter Miller, 56, admitted to building an illegal outdoor kitchen that overloaded the electricity system of his $ 8,000-per-week pad in Sag Harbor โ killing Jillian Wiener, 21, and her 19-year-old sister Lindsay as they vacationed with their terminally ill father in August 2022, Suffolk County prosecutors said Monday.
His wife, Pamela, who managed the popular summer rental, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment.

Some people just don't think the rules apply to them.
Uh, $1.8 million Hampton rental? Sounds like a shanty. Thinkin’ places like Hamptons, LA and the like, a million dollar house doesn’t have the same meaning as ten years ago.
agree, good observation
Horrible, just horrible!
Sag Harbor
In our area, even our place is now 3/4 of a million. ๐ค๐๐
Median Home Value
$2,533,251
According to the ‘nyp’ article a plea deal gives them no jail time. Guess they showed remorse in court eh?
The civil suit awards will probably be epic. Vacationing with terminally ill father, the two daughters both die. Assuming the mom is still in the picture she’s going to get a LOT of sympathy from a jury. The owners might not get jail time but they will be living out of a cardboard box when it’s over, I bet.
8k a week and didn’t have a legal/up to code fire and electrical system. All that’s left is the mother and son after the father died of cancer after his daughters were killed. So sickening and sad.
yep. Anything within 1/2 mile of the ocean will be well over $2 million
In other news, last month Justin Timberlake was arrested for DWI in Sag Harbor
Long gone are the days when Billy Joel could write songs about men making a living from fishing boats there.
The rental house is destroyed. Because their negligence caused the fire, their insurance policy is void. Assuming there was a mortgage, the bank now owns the land.
They might have other real estate, but how much of that is mortgaged?
They'll probably be bankrupted by any lawsuit, and the mother will only collect a small portion of any epic award.
Remember way back when the Publisher’s Clearing House grand prize was a $100,000 home?
The really big mistake was using electricity for an outdoor kitchen grill when propane or charcoal were safer and taste better. I imagine their illegal there.
Huh? Do I LOOK that old? ๐๐๐๐๐
One knick in a wire, one loose twist wire cap? How shoddy is shoddy defined?
8000.00 a week rental and the POS did the work himself OMG!! He is really screwed now because the insurance company wonโt pay either!! THEN he will be sued for wrongful death and wonโt have a dime left to his name!! HOW in the hell does a federal prosecutor afford to vacation in an $8000.00 a week rental property?? Well he passed away of cancer so he is with his girls now such a shame!
Probably implementing the Fani Willis plan.
