this is the shape changing monkey king, not a god originally. He risked his life to help get back Sita after she was kidnapped, so is a hero in ancient Indian literature.

And it is being put up in a temple, not on public land.

Yep, he could be compared to a Patron Saint that loves his God and represents certain moral values.

But I digress, it is apparent that intolerance is a virtue and knowledge is a sin. A common doctrine.
