Evangelicals who oppose Trump worship try to build a new movement

Over the past decade, Clint Leavitt saw different models of how to mix his evangelical faith and politics, none of them — to his mind — good. His family’s dinner table was consumed with debate over whether Barack Obama was the Antichrist. Even as his Phoenix church avoided political issues, he saw Christians around the country turn Donald Trump into a religious idol.

A drive to create a Christian political presence he calls “shaped by Jesus, not a partisan political ideology” led Leavitt, now 29, to seminary and then to pastoring a church filled with congregants who vote differently from one another but all share his goal. The people at Midtown Presbyterian Church in Phoenix say their political existence has been reduced to which party or candidate Christians must choose. They are “exhausted,” they tell him. Or “tired.”

So Leavitt, preparing for a bruising 2024 election season, joined a new national group of theologically conservative pastors who talk weekly about how to reject polarization and religious nationalism and to defend democracy. Last month, his congregation began a slick new six-part interactive video series aimed at reshaping evangelicals’ relationship to politics. Called “The After Party,” the curriculum, which has been used by some 75,000 people since it was released in April, says Christians should focus less on partisanship and more on how to relate to others so that they “better reflect Jesus … in 2024 and beyond.”

“More than anything, it’s about asking: ‘How do I allow the values and virtues and viewpoints of the kingdom of God to be my guiding principles?’” said Leavitt, whose church sees about 60 people each Sunday.

The Midtown church’s “After Party” sessions have been made more intense recently by the attempted assassination of Trump and the response to it by many of...

Trump worship? Gimme a break! Respect? Yes! Deep respect...and gratitude for past achievements? Yes! But there's never been a politician that I've even come close to worshiping.

I don’t think as many people “worship” Trump as they think. I think he’s the greatest president in the last century, but I certainly don’t “worship” him. I just think he’s really good, at least compared to the other guys. And he does NOT back down from a fight. Which is a trademark of all good leaders.

We are in a war. Not a metaphorical war, a true war with each side wanting to destroy the other.

You need leadership to win a war.

Accepting someone as a leader is not “worship.”

It's real simple.

Which party supports: homosexuality, transgender, the murder of the unborn child, is anti-family, anti-Christian?

That's you're voting guide.

It's hard to find a true Christian church these days. Established mainline churches are bringing in women and homosexual pastors, and going full-on "pride". They're queering their churches.

I'm sure WaPo approves all of this...

“...said Leavitt, whose church sees about 60 people each Sunday.”

This is from the same corporate media that ignored the pro life events that drew millions but couldn’t get a single headline from them but can highlight a church that gets 60 people on a good Sunday?

Gaslighting at its worst!

Clint Leavitt appears to be a small player in the world of leftists trying to co-opt evangelicals.

Meg Basham’s new book “Shepherds for Sale” explains this in great detail, how the George Soros-funded “think tanks” pay off what they think are “influential”, or sometimes “grassroots” evangelical preachers, teachers, thinkers, so that the left’s agenda is passed.

Christians, be aware!

I don't know anyone who worships Trump.

I know a few who think he is THE Anti-Christ. That was an interesting rabbit hole!

But I think he will be a decent president who might not only leave me alone to live my life in peace but might also get some bureaucratic jerks to leave me alone as well.

That is all I want. To be left along under our own vine and fig tree to raise our kids, make our cheese and run our business. I don't think that is too much to ask for.

I’m catching a whiff of liberal evangelicals.

I bet the whole point of this article is persuade Christians not to vote for Trump. I can’t know for sure, though, without subscribing to the WaPoo.

Whoever thinks that the “hand of God” was not on display on that afternoon of July 13th, in Butler, Pennsylvania, was just not looking, or did not possess the vision to see.

And who was extended divine intervention that day? None other than Donald Trump, the available instrument to right the injustices that have befallen the land chosen by the Creator to extend the rights of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”.

The Lord does perfect things through the actions of imperfect men, and we are all blessed by this grace.
